We have receding goalposts to avert vandalism

Jun 14, 2013, 8:20 PM

Why not a receding rock. It simply lowers straight down into the ground into an underground vault, and raises back up at the proper times. This would be a cool project for Clemson's own engineers. Include in the design certain traps and deterrents for those who would try to get to it.

"IDIOT POSTER OF THE MONTH SO FAR...GWP-- You have won IPM Award for your failure to completely comprehend a clear post & then choose to attack someone who points out your ignorance. While you are not yet in the same No Class Catagory as deRoberts, ClemTiger117 & Tigerdug23, you are getting closer to the Sewer Dwellers." - coachmac

Hiding The Rock because we are scared, means that they win. The Rock should always be perched at the top of The Hill for whenever fans come by.

Also the goal posts are there so that fans don't get hurt, not vandalism. We could go back to the old ones though. I don't anticipate us being in a position needing to pull a big upset for a long time.

Why would the lid on a pit be harder to get into than

just putting a metal cover over the whole thing? I say go with the simplest effective measure. Frankly, web cams might be the best deterrent. Start messing with the rock and you would have a dozen angry fans descend on you before the police arrived to rescue you.

Webcams and sensors

Put cameras on the rock and sensors connecting to the case and pedestal. Make the glass bulletproof. If someone tries to vandalize it, the sensors will go off and police will be there.
