US burns bridges to oppose breastfeeding resolution

Jul 8, 2018, 4:07 PM

This is the kind of stuff that gets play in international media. The US used strong arm tactics and threatened allies just to support baby formula manufacturers. And some of them aren't even American companies.

Think of how we see the "crazy" countries of the world. That's how the world sees us.

Yea Russia!?

Jul 8, 2018, 5:00 PM

This New New World Order is dizzying.

"It was the Russians who ultimately stepped in to introduce the measure — and the Americans did not threaten them.....

A Russian delegate said the decision to introduce the breast-feeding resolution was a matter of principle.

“We’re not trying to be a hero here, but we feel that it is wrong when a big country tries to push around some very small countries, especially on an issue that is really important for the rest of the world,” said the delegate, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

He said the United States did not directly pressure Moscow to back away from the measure. Nevertheless, the American delegation sought to wear down the other participants through procedural maneuvers in a series of meetings that stretched on for two days, an unexpectedly long period.

You don't think women care? Good call, chief.

Its scary how close this post is with 19B's. Original thought is out the window with Liberals. Lock step with whatever the media tells them to say.

You really think that many on the right aren't in lock step with Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham?

Really?

Yeah not big here that's for sure. It's not even on the news on TV either.

NPR picked it up on national newscast this a.m.

Sounds like we - the US - have always dragged our feet on the issue but eventually would fall in line. The big issue is labeling / marketing of items that are in no way "baby formula" but are marketed as such.

"embracing the interests of baby formula manufacturers"

Jul 9, 2018, 11:34 AM

Not much else needs to be said. Once again a political lobby supersedes what's best for people. Typical US political corruption.

Breast milk jump starts a kids immune system, digestive system and nervous system. Breast milk is produced by the mother for that specific baby's system. It has no toxic fluoride, which can't be said for formula.

This type of thing peeves me

Jul 9, 2018, 1:29 PM

>"The $70 billion industry, which is dominated by a handful of American and European companies, has seen sales flatten in wealthy countries in recent years, as more women embrace breast-feeding. Over all, global sales are expected to rise by 4 percent in 2018, according to Euromonitor, with most of that growth occurring in developing nations."

So sales have flatten in wealthy country, what does that tell you? Obviously no one used formula 100 years ago and then it took over, but has tapered off as we become educated on the subject. If smart people stop buying it, who's next? Great, 3rd world countries.

I've been reading how companies like NESTLE go into 3rd world countries and convince women living in huts that formula is superior so these poor women scrape up money to buy formula. Well, their milk dries up and then they can't afford formula so their baby dies.

Our health care system is full of doctors who are too busy (or lazy) to read peer reviewed research, instead they count on the last sale rep who brought in a box of donuts and had a nice set of bolt-ons. Don't get me started on their arrogance. Dare you do some actual research on a subject. They never deviate from the status quo because it's nice and safe to be among other lazy, bad doctors than it is to step out on your own. God forbid they not be cuckholded by the insurance companies who drive the status quo. /rant
