There's something in these hills.

Even more amazing is that they have a paywall for most articles.***

I'd argue Lawrence Phillips should be #1 if you consider

the whole story.

They should have known better after his assault charge in Nebraska. Climbing in a window, dragging an ex-girlfriend out, dragging her down stairs and then slammed her head into a mailbox. This after multiple other assaults. He was obviously a bad guy.

The Rams traded Gilbert to get the pick. Got rid of Jerome Bettis. Could have picked Eddie George instead.

Dude was regularly drunk at practice and hungover during games. Stayed out to 4am before games.

Jimmy Johnson gave him a chance in Miami and he lasted TWO games before beating up another woman at a nightclub.

Had a successful stint in NFL Europe, got ANOTHER chance with the 49ers and then, because he didn't block on passing plays, was responsible for shortening Steve Young's career when he got blindsided by a CB blitz that absolutely should have been picked up. After that he stops practicing and mocks coaches during practice and rarely ever tried at anything.

Then off to Arena league, he singed a contract and quit the team without contacting the coach or ever playing a down.

Then off to Canada. Seems leaving the country was good for him. He had a good year but was still so awful as a person two agents left him. He then engaged in a salary dispute with his canadian team and was released after another sexual assault. He got ANOTHER chance with another Canadian team but was kicked off again for being wild with the head coach.

Then on to PICK-UP football. (Not joking) He tried to kill 3 teenagers with his car after a dispute from a PICK UP football game in California. He was already wanted for multiple violent crimes at that point. Eventually went to prison for 7 counts of assault with a deadly weapon (among other things)

Then on to PRISON. He was on trial for choking his cell mate to death when he was found dead after likely committing suicide in 2015.

His brain was donated to CTE research by his family.

His story was so sad. Such a troubled individual.***

Saw that Patrick Sapp was part of the trade

with the Cardinals so the Chargers could move up one pick from #3 to #2 to draft Ryan Leaf, the #1 top bust in this article. Did not know that until now.

Good story about the recruitment of Patrick Sapp and Brian Dawkins -

Listing guys that are still in the league in a list of all-time busts (top 10 no less) is beyond ridiculous. Do I expect those guys to do much? - no. But they are still in the league and until they aren’t, we’ve seen plenty of guys rebound, resurrect careers, or bloom late. There are plenty of guys they could have listed instead- you have 50 years of guys to pull from…. Didn’t make it far in that article- waste of time
