Venables

Aug 28, 2013, 7:11 AM

Contrary to my screen name, I am not a Georgia fan.

Does anyone else think that Venables is the most comfortable and relaxed in interviews that he has ever been while at Clemson?

Listening to his answers, I think he finally feels like he has the right mix and is comfortable with the talent and experience he has across the board.

Thoughts?

I have felt that way too. I see it more as being cautiously optimistic. He does not look as high strung as I am use to seeing him.

I am afraid of 2 things which I see as omens concerning this game however.

First was before the opening game we played against Alabama. I remember one of the coaches saying, on camera, that they wanted the media to talk about the Clemson offensive line when the game was done.

Then, before the West Virginia game, Dabo said he hoped people would talk about the Clemson Defense after the game.

Well, in both instances, people did talk, but not in the light we were all hoping.

This week Dabo said it was motivating that people did not know that names of our defensive front, and he wanted the media to know them after this Georgia game.

Again, I do to - but this time, please please please, let it be for how shockingly dominating they were, able to shut down the dawgs in a way never before seen!

Not trying to be pessimistic, but I tend to have a heightened sense of paranoia going into any opening game.

A heightened sense of paranoia going into any opening game??

You've got me beat. I have that for every game. It usually starts about mid-August.

Hope our D is much improved this year. It needs to be.

GO TIGERS!!!!!

disasters. Even the best hunting dogs are a little gun shy upon entering the field. Hopefully, the Clemson Nation along with the staff and team will remain grounded in the reality of the competition...and never lose that certain "edge" that requires fierce determination, utilization of all our skills and motivation.

Me too

Agreed. I have been a tiger fan all my life and I hold my breath every season during game one regardless of the opponent. I have had my very high hopes dashed enough to go into each season very hopeful and optimistic, but also mindful of the fact that win or lose, there is an entire season to play after this one game. That being said, I hope we do things to the dawgs on Saturday that would make even Michael Vick feel sorry for them.

Absolutely.

He had a closer look at Clemson defense than any of us. Fans wanted W's and he wanted a good defense.

I'm certain he's settled in a little to go with a much better defense this year. He's probably grown a little more comfortable with a mike and camera too.

As long as he stressed wrapping Gurley, the one bright side

Clemson's D is they rarely get gutted for long drives. They give up big plays which leads to our offense running more plays. LSU scored too quickly when they did score. It's also better for our offense not to hit 70 yard TDs for the same reason.

I REALLY hope so, our defense has been abysmal

the last few years. Clemson used to be synonymous with defense. I want us to get back to that!

Couple nights ago I watched the 2012 SEC Championship game, UGA vs Bama.

It was back and forth - Bama was able to run at will on Georgia - right up the gut, but to be honest, Georgia could have won that game. Right at the end if AM would have spiked the ball to stop the clock, he could have taken a shot for the end zone, maybe 2 - but instead passed it to a receiver at the 3 yard line.

It's going to be a tough game, but, I look at it like this, we played the Coots much better than Georgia did, and we bear ourselves in that game.

If we can minimize mistakes, I truly believe we can pound Georgia. Also, I'm a fan of Hot Rod, but I think for us to be effective in pounding the ball for 3 yards at a time, we need to work Zac Brooks, look at the team pics and how much bigger he is than the rest of our backs.
