Vickery Hall has made Brad and took down Danny...

One was a great coach, the other is a pure turd.
I started giving to Clemson in '85, "Liz" called me when I stopped giving after they dropped $16 million on the goldon goose.
But you know what, we've still got you.
Merry Christmas, Tigernet.

Danny left in 89. Vickery hall opened in 91, Vickery Hall was to support athletes academically. Not sure how you are relating the two. Please explain. Thanks.

Wasn’t there a rumor that Danny didn’t want to spend the money on something for academics? And it was that conflict with the higher ups that cost him his job.

I thought the problem between Danny and the administration was that Danny wanted athletic dorms for the players and the admin said no?

Correct, the administration wanted Vickery Hall and Danny wanted athletic dorms.

Danny spoke badly of the administration, they didn’t like it, and they forced him to resign.
The fact that we had been on NCAA probation several years earlier, and the NCAA was investigating us again, didn’t help his cause either.

Danny stood up at an IPTAY meeting in the presence of the President of the University (his boss) and made fun of the man re: the expenditures upcoming for Vickery Hall and stated that if they would give that money to him, he would produce more National Championships. He ridiculed his boss in public and was summarily fired for it. If he had used the wisdom God gave him and had that conversation man-to-man in private, Danny would probably still be coaching at Clemson today and South Carolina would not have its top hemp farmer.

That's new information to me but not surprising. I knew he kept bringing up the subject of a new athletic dorm after being told more than once to drop it. The President had explained that the NCAA had already decided that Athletic dorms were being abolished and athletes would be disbursed into the general student population. Lord Danny kept bringing it up on the barbecue circuit - did not know Lennon was present at one of these meetings. Straw that broke the camels back. The probations, insubordination, and constant clashes with the admissions dept. trying to get players in that had questionable transcripts. In the end he thought he was bigger than the President. He wasn't, but not the first coach to develop that level of arrogance. He was in the right place at the right time. Put him on a level playing in the SEC with equal talent and he fell flat on his face. Great recruiter, not an offensive strategist.
