Watched more basketball this weekend than I have all year

Mar 23, 2015, 8:43 AM

Which means I watched 4-5 minutes of the Kansas / WSU game. I hate basketball.

I like basketball.

But I had other stuff to do. The only time this weekend I could have sat down and watched for any length of time, I chose instead to watch several episodes of the Wire. I'm pretty sure I made the right choice.

look forward to when this sport bottoms out

but I'm not sure this will happen anytime soon. It is 90% unwatchable and falling. The athleticism is amazingly elite, but the actual talent is abysmal.

It's just 3-pointers, slam dunks and referee's decisions.

They need to ban the 3-point shot immediately. I think that is the crux of the problem.

The problem is the Whiteys. Too many are playing bringing

the game down.

nah, the 3 is not...

the issue but it does need to be moved out. The real issue is the NBA (which sucks btw) and if the college game needs tweaking, fouls need to be called the way they were intended to be and carrying needs to be stopped. Contact has not been called correctly for some time and the players are a product of this. You can simply stick your back side into someone, back them up and gain position. In the original construct, you had to make the defender shift his feet and while he was not set, THEN muscle in. The TV guys would love to highlight great technique in this area but there isn't any so, they concentrate on dribble drives and dunks. Try driving the way they do with less than half of your hand dropping below the horizontal. These guys would be much less effective, the dribble drive, no real plan, offense would go away in favor of strategic positioning and passing. The good game!

Let us not be deceived by phrases about ‘Man taking charge of his own destiny.’ All that can really happen is that some men will take charge of the destiny of others. . . . The more completely we are planned the more powerful they will be. - C.S. Lewis

Umm, NBA's talent level is ridiculous right now

Mar 23, 2015, 9:24 AM

And the play is really good, teams have moved away from the iso one-on-one style offenses into a true team sport with passing, spacing and three point shooting.

IMO, college isn't as good because none of the stars stay more than one year now so there is no continuity among the teams.

That's not going anyway any time soon, so I think college should do itself a favor and drop the shot clock to at least 30 seconds (I would think 24-28 would be more optimal)

The Wichita State/Kansas game was fun

Mar 23, 2015, 9:11 AM

Kansas has refused to put Wichita State on the schedule for years, so we got to see Little Brother one-up Big Brother

More like "refused to schedule Wichita State for decades"***

I loved Gregg Marshall's smirk at the end

Mar 23, 2015, 9:26 AM

Wichita is a fun team to watch, VanVleet is a stud and I love the fearless shooting from Ron Baker.

Their game against ND should be interesting, should be an air assault from 3-point land on both sides
