Apparently it was taking forever and they had one night to do it, and all the artists kept trying to inject their ideas into the song.

My favorite part is when Stevie Wonder started trying to say one verse should be in Swahili (never mind Swahili not being spoken in Ethiopia), at which point Waylon Jennings was like “### am I doing here?” and just got up and left.
