So given my vast years of experience,
Would you rather…
1) Make the NCAAT and win one or two games
Or
2) Make the NIT and lose in the finals to UNC
I’m just sayin…

In reality it means nothing. Just a participation exercise.
It’s NCAAs or stay home as far as my personal opinion goes.

To me, the NIT is the equivalent of going to the mayo bowl. I'd rather the team stay home.

For newbies before the NCAA expanded NIT was almost as big as the NCAA T. It certainly isn't like that now but when only one ACC team went some great times battled in it from all over the country. And if we still had those rules CLemson would have no NCAAT experience.

But the NIT is a much better tournament than it used to be.
In the past, a .500 record was good enough. Cliff Ellis made numerous NITs with records .500 or slightly above, with poor conference records. Those weren’t very good teams, nor did we play against very good competition.
These days, that isn’t nearly good enough. It’s become a much better tournament because the NIT is choosing from many deserving teams that didn’t get into the Big Dance. There are more good teams these days. Thus, there is no shame being in it.
With that said, I believe we will be in the NCAA Tournament this year (and absolutely deserve to be). I’ll be really disappointed if we don’t make it, but I would never turn down an NIT invite.
