LB Coaching

1

Oct 3, 2023, 10:57 AM

Any chance we move Wes away from coaching the LBs? I feel new blood might be good there, then Wes can focus on DC and we can bring in someone with a bit more moxy and intensity. IMO - that group is missing their edge.

Wes Goodwin is finally getting his type of LB onto the team

there's a chance that it's a personnel issue.

Our freshmen LBs are 6'2" and 6'4"

Oct 3, 2023, 11:13 AM

the Woodazes are 6'3"+

the size change is a direct relationship to Wes Goodwin finally getting to call shots with his personnel

Wes Goodwin has his defense flying around on the backside

I'm actually more excited about Wes' current team and future

than I was with Brent's from Skalski to his last season. (That room had the same nepotism issues as the WR room has had)

I don't see or believe that comment for 1 second. But I do believe that any problems with LBs is coming from the coach. I don't know how I can be any clearer, but Goodwin has by far less hands on coaching experience than any coach coaching on our team, less than anybody!!!!

just wait ...

I haven't been wrong about anyone on this team yet. and my viewpoints trace back to before Spring Game 2023

TNET is just now accepting Cade Klubnik

the freshmen defense is better than the upperclass def

except for Nate Wiggins and Xavier Thomas

I'm still waiting for TNET to celebrate these guys once they realize what's in front of them #PROGRAM CHANGERS

I would not be opposed but someone else has to take the position in addition to current responsibilities. I suppose if Eason coached all of the Dline then a coaching position could be dedicated to LBs.

It would be nice to actually have more LBs for Wes to coach. Cupboard will be quite bare after Carter and Trotter move on. Hopefully they can add a few from the portal but I won't hold my breath...we will see.

What is wrong with our linebacker play?

Love the speed we have. They've looked great to me.

Plain and Simple: TACKLING. Specifically Trotter. His Fundamentals are Lacking and he tries to Throw (Sling) Ball Carriers To the Ground!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I saw some poor tackling across the board to start the game

1

Oct 3, 2023, 11:43 AM

but it didn't last long. The defense has been outstanding and our linebackers are some of the best in the country.

I generally agree. I do not think we have ever had a more Athletic Starting Tandem. Tackling has become Pandemic on all levels of Football due to rule changes (lack of Live Tackling that can be done in Preseason and during Season). Coaches like to tout Thud Tackling, Tackling Dummies and Tackling Rolling Padded Wheels. Unfortunately, none of these Techniques can simulate the “Live Tackling” of a Ball Carrier!

Wes Goodwin must be the most maligned DC of a top 10 defense

4

Oct 3, 2023, 12:22 PM

In the country. Let's be honest he doesn't look like an athlete and he doesn't spit fire on the sidelines; that's absolutely all you know about the job he's doing. You feel we need a new LB coach solely because of that.

I disagree. Not the case at all. Do you think our LBs have improved so far this year vs last year?

2024 student level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who coached the LBs last year?

Oct 3, 2023, 3:19 PM

Same guy.

What drills is he running at practice?
What tackling form is he teaching?
What is he teaching them in film study?

You don't know you just feel like we should find someone who looks like Brian Urlacher cause there's no way the pudgy reserved guy could possibly do the job.

Carter & Trotter are projected 1st round guys. Defense hasn't lost these games. Defensive players all say they love Wes.

It was 7 to 6 vs Duke at Halftime. They were up vs FSU at halftime.

What you need to worry about is that all these players are older and have to leave finally. They are Brent V's guys cycling out.

Worry about the recruiting coming in and 2024 D.

Peter woods (woodaz signed his NLI a week after Venables left). They've also got the #1 LB in the nation committed for the next class.
