What Dabo knows...

Sep 4, 2021, 11:39 PM

1. TL's runs and reads and ETN masked a lot of our OL problems

2. Not only do we not have a breakaway RB, we don't have a bruiser back. 2 Rush yards? See OL.

3. DJ is good enough and will get better, but it's tough to tell his full potential with SEVEN sacks

4. WR's are good if we can get the ball to them. See reads and OL

5. D will carry us this year into the playoffs, till we lose again to team who abuses our OL

6. Pomm is not ready or not capable, cause they were going to do nothing at all to endanger DJ. Problem is, you can't run him, and you can't leave him in the pocket or he gets sacked. See OL.

Danny always said "I'll take a good OL over a great QB any day." Me too. At least with a good OL you can have more than 2 rush yards and your QB won't get sacked. A great QB on his axx is the same as no QB.

7. 250lb QB....

First designed QB run under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

I understand our deficiencies, but play calling did nothing to cover it up. Very predictable.

Bright spots:

Ngata and Jawja still sucks.

Addendum to 4- We need a slot receiver

And a coach who could use him differently than what’s on tape since 2014.

We absolutely have a serviceable RB.

Sep 4, 2021, 11:50 PM

He sat on the bench....likely reading text offers from other D1 coaches....until the 4th freaking quarter.

DJ will get better because it's almost statistically impossible to get worse than he was tonight.

The OL sucks...we all agree.....all of those sacks were not on them. You could have put horse blinders on DW3--maybe a blindfold even---and he would have felt pressure better than DJU tonight and adjusted accordingly. When the runs opened up in front of him for the taking, he froze. When he did scramble (the few times) with open field in front of him, he was jogging because he was STILL looking for the pass.

I know for a fact that he couldn't have been this bad in HS or he wouldn't have been so highly regarded. He's in the same old one-size-fits-all BS Tony Elliott system that couldn't cater to a QB's strengths if it had to, and he's clearly uncomfortable in it. We've literally devolved his abilities.

Yeah LJD is serviceable, I just don't see us leaning on him for a game changing romp or for a couple of must have yards. A good back, but not elite, in either speed or power.

What caught my attention was only 1 designed run for DJ at 250 lbs after an entire off-season to design some - even up on the goal line. All I can figure is the want to protect him at all and every cost. Which tells me something about Pomm.

That was probably the best defense we'll see till the playoffs, but it just shows we aren't leet on the OL. We are on the D and WR I think, and could be at QB. My guess is he was told not to run. Some holes were too big to miss and the guy was a competitive winner in HS, so he may have wanted to bolt instinctively, like KB used to do. I agree, it was weird.

If you take away the bad read INT, it was 3-3. But the diff was they pushed us around all night with dink passes and short runs, and we just had nothing but a occasional intermediate pass. Might have been better if LJD was in the game. No idea what was up with that.

decision we made.

HC: How did we get only 2 yards rushing?
OC: We protected our backup QB.
HC: Oh, ok. Carry on.

True some of those sacks were coverage sacks. Maybe half in fact.

Which either shows how good the dawgs back D was, or how hesitant DJ was to throw. But the decision not to run him, even on designed plays, was odd. Took away a whole facet of our O, as herbie pointed out several times.

Part of running the spread is a QB threat. The undefended man. I just don't get it.
