What I saw last night

We let one get away from us that we needed to win.

The only thing as bad as our 3 point shooting last night was our 3 point shot defense. On the bright side, we didn’t attempt 25+ three pointers and instead did a good job of getting the ball inside to PJ and Schieff. PJ attempted 5 three pointers but at least 2 or 3 of them came in desperation at the end of the overtime periods. The lady announcer called one of Schieff’s shots a “weight room basket”. He had a few of those, as did Godfrey. Chase started taking the ball to the basket late in the game and that paid off both with some made shots and some successful trips to the free throw line.

We rebounded very well. Schieff seems to always be there, but without doing any research I would guess that was one of PJ’s highest rebounding nights of the season.

The bench only provided 8 points, all from Godfrey. Dillon Hunter only had 2 points and only attempted 3 shots. I think Wiggins is a better scorer but not sure why he didn’t start and didn’t play as much last night. Dillon is a better passer so that probably helped getting the ball inside to the big guys.

Our overall free throw shooting was pretty good but we missed a few at critical times late in the game that cost us.

We know it is hard to win on the road so winning at home becomes that much more important. Needed to win that one but just didn’t get the job done.

One question I have not seen asked is whether the Tech team that beat Duke is the same team that lost to Notre Dame and Boston College and Mass-Lowell (who?)? There are so many teams that beat someone on Wednesday and then lose to a team that is supposed to be weaker on Saturday. The fact that there is only 1 ranked team with 1 loss and several with 3, 4 or 5 losses tells you all you need to know.

Well, Clemson beat Duke last year, but lost to Boston College, Louisville, and Chicago-Loyola.

Losing those quad 3 and quad 4 games keeps a team out of the NCAA tournament.
