When was the last time softball won a series against a top ten opponent?

Before everyone goes nuts, I am not trolling. The softball team can beat lesser competition for the most part but struggles winning against top 10 teams. That brings me to my question. Who was the last top 10 opponent they won a series against? I can't think of one but I don't follow that closely.

No regular season series. I guess you could say the regional but that doesn't count. By all accounts we should have been able too. We haven't played many. FSU. Duke the year b4 or maybe the year before then. None to teams that stayed top 10.

It's a legit question. Sadly we've had the pitching. Just not hitting. Development problem? Recruiting? It's all on coach. He should have been able to go out and get a couple really good hitters, as well as training them.

Good to know. I know you follow pretty close so if you can't remember either then I know I am not too far off base. I honestly don't know if they have ever won a series against a top ten team. I don't remember the 2 seed from last year but I don't think they were top 10. On the other hand we lost to Oklahoma, Alabama, and we have also lost both games to Tennessee between last year and this year. FSU beat us. I really can't think of one.

They started the program less than 5 years ago!!!!! This is what’s wrong with fan bases. The program is leaps and bounds further along than most division 1 programs in its first five years.

well, the way people have been talking about this program the past 4 years, you'd think they were slaying giants. blame your fellow fans. Ive always been pessimistic, yet hopeful about this program based on what Ive seen. are they elite? no, but they are very good. Like people EXPECTING us to go to Bama and beat them in a regional, or to Norman and beat one of the most dominant teams of all time. some of yall need to reign yourselves in. Its ok to be hopeful and want the team to win, but you have to take a step back and truly see what they are and that is a good but not great team.

With all that being said, it is impressive what they have been able to do. Hopefully their early success leads to some good recruiting. They are knocking on the door, but they aren't quite there yet.

I hear you. There is a short span of time with just a few seasons with limited opportunities to play ranked teams. So to the original post ask the question again in 5 years.

Id like to know how were still ranked

Of course out come the crazies. You aren't a real fan etc etc... after 5 years it is not too much to ask that you be able to win a series vs a top team. So here is a question for the nay sayers. If five years is too soon to expect a series win against top competition, what is the right number? 7, 9, 10, 15. 50.... you tell me. Everyone likes to dog pile and then fade into the shadows without offering an honest opinion. Come on all you brave souls throw it out there and be accountable for once.

Most excellent post. Great question. I've never bought into the whole "history " argument in any sport. How do teams get a history... with a winning coach. We had to do it in football. I really don't think Clemson winning a soccer championship in the 80's played a big part in Noonan winning 2 of 3 in 3 years.

Now, it is a funky time in ALL sports because of the portal and nil. I think somehow people only thinks that affects football. Definitely a lot of female sports started out west and spread eastward. But the popularity has exploded across the country because it's a good way to get your education partially paid, or fully paid.

Pro softball doesn't pay much, but it is growing. As well as Olympics. You get a spot and if you perform well, you get recognized, and recognition equates to money...

Bottom line, can the coach recruit and develop said talent. We've recruited well, developed, not so much.
