Who comes up with these names for different Covid strains,

Dec 21, 2021, 11:34 AM

anyway? Take this latest one. Who sat around the desks and decided, "OK, we shall christen this one OMICRON."

Instead of just Covid-20, or Covid-B, or some other relatively simple thang.

A simple internet search will tell you (hint: WHO)

This was the first link I clicked on after my search. Will answer many of your questions it seems whether rhetorical or not.

Omicron
Pi

This was something the WHO decided to do in order to keep public communication about variants easier and less confusing.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Oh No. If that is the case, then the next one will be Pi.

Dec 21, 2021, 12:30 PM

Then, we will have that age old debate about Pi R square, or Pi R round.

They didn’t do this to make anything less confusing. They did it to take the place names off of the variants because certain governments were uncomfortable having viral strains named after their countries/cities. The names sound novel now but wait until they use the Greek alphabet over and over again for different viral outbreaks over the course of a decade or two. When there’s a different coronavirus or influenza virus or whatever a few years from now they’ll label it Delta or Omicron or Omega or whatever and laypeople will think one of these viral strains has returned. It’s gonna be a complete mess when it comes to messaging.

It’s the word “MORONIC” all scrambled up.

He has the cube over in the corner, all by himself. He's a loner, keeps to himself, quiet.

But when it comes to Greek letters, he's the master. He spied on every sorority at his college!

Watch-out for the Lambda strain....
