Who is Goodwin's eyes in the box?

In other words who took Goodwin's place in the box? I think this is an important position, identifying offensive sets and personnel.

Mickey Conn?

He’s co-defensive coordinator.

Is he still a Spotter?

I thought I read that Sack died. Maybe not.

A lot of coordinators operate from the box. I think Goodwin has always operated from the box and was accustomed to it. I thought it was a little unusual that he said he would be on the field. I think he and coach Swinney should reconsider that arrangement.

Great question

2022 team missed Goodwin's "eyes in the box". IMHO Goodwin helps Defense and team much more in the box with his skill sets than Mickey Conn. Just because Venables was better on the field does not mean Goodwin needs to be on the field. Two vastly different skill sets.

Goodwin & Conn earn about the same salary so in terms of perceived value to Dabo and team, there is no difference. You make a good point. +1

Why not Nick Eason?

I would argue for him by saying he has brough the best impact play out of the defensive groups as a whole, and his recruiting has been the best.

I would argue against saying that him keeping full focus on the DLine rather than having to coach a whole defense may be the right move.

Misunderstood question, but still maybe Eason.

The spotter needs to know something about offenses and sets. He needs to know opposing team's offensive personnel.
