Why I think we should not travel with broken piece.

Jun 15, 2013, 12:00 PM

I have been a tigernet lurker for many years. I generally check the boards for updates and humor and then leave it at that. Until this week. The rock incident has had me stirred up for days now. I went through the expected gamut of emotions upon hearing the news....sadness, anger, revenge, etc. This morning however, I woke up at peace with what happened. I am NOT ok with what happened, but the reality is that in its current condition the rock is still presentable, it was not damaged beyond use, it is still 80-85% there and that portion is unharmed.
In other words, whoever did this failed miserably if their intention was to destroy. They have managed to light a fire in the belly of the beast that WILL be used against all who we play. I can live with this.

At first I was all gung-ho for taking the missing piece on road games. It sounds good, it will be fun for the team to use as motivation this year, even the national media will lap that up and speak of it. However.......when the novelty of the idea and the upcoming season comes to an end, the novelty will fade.

Open your mind for a minute. What makes Howard's Rock so rich, so important, so ours, is that it's what we do at home. It makes Clemson, Clemson. It adds to the mystique of coming to Clemson. Too much of a good thing can dilute the quality. We at Clemson rub the rock every home game. We rub it, you are now in our house, get ready for hell. If we become Clemson who rubs the rock every home game, and a piece of it every away game then it takes away from how special our home field is. Having it on the road removes something that makes our home games so much more unique.

IMO if we recover the piece, and it can be one properly, reattach it. If not, leave the rock alone. Its still there and it still makes me smile. The idiots failed in their attempt to do any real damage. But do not, please do not, add any sort of fake piece or refill it in. Thats tacky.

Thanks for hearing me out as I fade back to lurker status.
GO TIGERS!!!

if the piece is recovered, put it in the new museum in the west end zone......it'll serve as a sad reminder of the trash that shares our state flag.....and i hope this event stops the next cu fan from selling an extra ticket to a dirtpecker the next time they travel to cu for a game.
