They've taken over the press, they've banned same sex marriage, diminished the rights of women, and their leader has made joking remarks about gas chambers and the Holocaust while embracing white nationalism.

JFC. I do not care about Hungary or their dictator. I do not think we should have ambassadors or embassy's in ANY country "meddling". But I know through sheer experience that this guy was sent there with a purpose outside of what is for the good of the USA, and I call b.s. on it.

The whole thing points out how he was attacked by the people over there from the very start for who he is. Hungary's claim he's meddling is bogus, as shown in the article. He even says he doesn't want to talk about gender issues with them and they always bring it up.

Before his current posting, Mr. Pressman had served as ambassador to the United Nations for special political affairs and as an assistant secretary of homeland security. He also worked at the White House as director for war crimes and atrocities on the National Security Council.
Interesting you post an article attacking our American ambassador and siding with a government that has gone full-oppressive and no longer free.

Hungary has strangely become the new "conservative" darling of many in the GOP, so much so they hosted the CPAC there and they're doing it again this year.
Let's say it out loud again. The AMERICAN-based organization and extension of the GOP held a conference in Hungary to celebrate "conservatism" while inviting oppressive leaders who engage in anything BUT conservatism while also inviting key GOP members to speak.
Apparently NC thinks they're the good guys in this story.

Right now the left is mired in incompetent stupidity. The Biden administration is an incompetent failure that has little to no hope of winning in 2024 unless the GOP does some things equally stupid. They certainly all earn their criticism, but criticizing them at the moment is shooting fish in a barrel. You notice how there aren't really any new threads on here singing Biden and the Dems praises? Even from the admittedly leftist posters?
The right (and I'm talking MAGA extremists, not conservative Republicans), however, is engaging in a much more sinister path to try to oppress, marginalize, and flat-out eliminate freedom for certain groups of Americans, and they aren't making any secret about it. And all of you sit here and cheerlead it like it's a good thing. You don't see a problem.
Adoring someone like Hungary's leader and government? "Oh, hey, this guy who has oppressed minorities/LGBT people and stomped out free speech and diminished women's rights? Yeah, that guy's great! Let's hold conferences there!" Can you imagine if the Dems held conferences in Venezuela? Cuba? China? Y'all would lose your ####### minds.
Why don't you answer this: Do YOU personally support the type of government that's formed in Hungary, and would you like to see America adopt similar standards? And what specifically do you like?
If your answer is yes to the first question, then you've proven my point and you're part of the problem. No American should admire Hungary's government just as no American should admire Venezuela's.
EDIT: And no, all the crazies and freedom haters aren't just on the right. I just have less concern for Moonbeam Sunshine waving his long hair and smashing a Target window than I do for Benedict Cavanaugh VII who wants to ascend high into government and change policy to curb freedoms.

Thats a good point. Most of these Ambassadors positions are bought and paid for. No qualifications required other than being able to write a check.

she was probably the dumbest person I've ever heard speak. It was very informative (just not in the way she probably hoped) about what most of these "ambassadors" appointments are in reality.
Note: She was ambassador under dubya, if that matters, which I don't think it does.
