Wide receivers

I mean no disrespect to David Hood but I don’t buy this idea that wide receiver speed is the issue with our offense. Separation is not as simple as speed. Hunter renforce ran a 4.6. After Jeff Scott left, our offense became too straight forward. “Line up and win because we have the better players”. I have fond memories of Tyler Grisham as a Clemson player but the wide receivers have gotten worse every year under his coaching. Technique and play calling that challenges coverages and makes defenders have to make a decision are where separation start. Our receivers don’t even come back to the quarterback once their routes are done. I watched them literally stop and standby their defensive backs during the duke game. Plenty of teams with slower athletes than Clemson find open receivers.

-coaching
-blocking
-catching
-short area quickness
-instincts
-fight/determination/drive
-can't high point
-soft
-choir boy esque
-straight up lack of TALENT

I'd keep ONE WR off this team (williams), the rest I'd rather try my luck in a blind pick from the portal when it opens.............WRs can't get much worse than we got right now

I get all that but the receivers were not the ones that fumbled or missed 2 field goals that we always make.

WRs did drop passes. And Shipley had ball hit his hands, bounce in air and get picked off. We gotta catch da ball.

and I get that too but you're not looking at the big picture

you're looking at isolated plays within a game and you can do that with EVERY SINGLE GAME. Step back and realize that these "little mistakes" (whatever those may be) have become more of a trend than they used to be when we had better talent and coaching.

Speed can be bad if you keep running into traffic...a good QB throws you open but you must find the hole and stay open long enough for the QB to deliver the pass and then catch...Ole stone hands Bob Hayes could outrun a taxi but couldn't catch a social disease! Dabo can still fix all of this, however I am still disappointed that he did not have them ready...Spiller had Shipley ready and any QB that can chase down a dB in 50 yds when he had the head start and angle is a winner! Dabo knows that the only statistic is on the scoreboard when the clock says 0...you would be more patient if you were here when Frank Howard was coach!

Good post except for your Jeff Scott loser fillin...he was worthless at USF...worse than any of the UT or FSU experiments...did you shower with Jeff?

Hahaha. I agree Jeff Scott isn’t a good head coach. I didn’t even particularly think he was an electric offensive coordinator. But I do think he’s a good judge of wide receiver talent and recruiter. And a good wide receiver coach. Our wideouts had some dog in them when he was here.

You're right. Speed isn't everything.

But it's hard comparing slot WRs to outside WRs. They are totally different positions.

Some of it seems to be strength too...

They look weak out there. Collins is like a stick figure. Mike Williams was a hoss, Tee Higgins a hoss, Sammy had grit, these guys the team has now look soft.
