Wide receivers at Washington are called Takers

3

Nov 4, 2023, 10:38 AM

On Gameday Washington Huskies transformed their wide receivers to becoming “takers” to take the ball out of the air and fighting to keep it. It needs to happen at Clemson. Sammy Watkins grabbed the ball out of the air. At the combine when he was drafted, the commentators highlighted how he caught the ball. Hey Sammy, Clemson needs help on technique for our receivers. Maybe Garrett could invite Sammy for a day on the field to talk to our receivers or our receivers could watch NFL film on Sammy Watkins.

If I remember correctly so did Mike Williams. Those 50/50 balls

I doubt any of our little darlings would want to put in the work that Sammy, Mike, Nuk and Tee put in, standing in front of that Juggs Gun having it fire footballs at you for hours at a time.

I've spent many hours of my life playing with Juggs, usually two but sometimes four at a time. I enjoyed it.

Nuk is known for not putting in work. He doesn’t have to. He’s the Iverson of football. He doesn’t practice in the NFL at all. I can’t speak to the hours others spent. I’d have to guess you’re right sans Nuk.

I love that. Takers. That’s not just marketing either. It’s an attitude that, if practiced and coached consistently, can translate to all kinds of winning plays on the field. Not just catches either, coming back to the QB when he’s scrambling, meeting the ball if under thrown, or when a wideout fights and rips an interception from a DB’s hands those are massively underrated in the stat sheet. All of it, tells the defense, you ain’t getting that ball. We absolutely need more of that.
