From Baseball America

Mar 1, 2013, 11:56 AM

An interview with Clemson signee Chris Okey. When I talked to coach LeCroy a while back (like in December), he said this is the guy that's the key to next year's freshman class. And yes, he's from out-of-state, but he has a Clemson connection.

What are the odds of him going pro?***

Don't know...

Seems that everyone around him has gone to college, although not to one as prestigious as Clemson. Hopefully, his family connection (and the fact that he's supposedly undersized) will keep him on the roster. I think he's real good friends with Clate Schmidt, and maybe that'll help steer him to Clemson.

So I'm guessing

Mar 1, 2013, 12:07 PM

there's like zero chance we keep Austin Meadows from going pro right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Coach LeCroy said about 20% chance he'd show up...

Mar 1, 2013, 12:12 PM

but people thought the same thing about Clate Schmidt.

zero chance Meadows shows up on campus. I like LeCroy's optimism, but Meadows is a first round draft pick. If we get Meadows it will be like hitting the lottery.

He'll probably go pro since he will be a top 5 pick.

A top 5 pick kind of has to go pro. The signing bonus has to be huge and very hard to turn down. These kids getting offered that kind of money, and it's sad to say will never know what it's like to enjoy the closeness of college ball.

I mean, there is always a chance that a player wants to play college baseball or attend a certain college, but with the possibility of being a top 5 pick, I think it just depends on what kind of person that player is.

Has a top 5 pick ever turned down millions of dollars? I don't think it matters what kind of person he is. Nobody is turning that down.

Will never step foot on campus
