With the number of players skipping bowl games only to rise

I'm sure that it will hurt attendance/viewership and gaining future bowl sponsors. How long before they go to a FCS style of playoff system?

I am not sure what will happen, but those other bowls don't matter at all anymore.

I agree with the other poster. Players skipping has no impact on playoff expansion.
There are only a handful of players (if that) who drive ratings / attendance anyway.
The CFP will move to eight teams soon (before current contract expires) enough. Too much money to be made.

Yeah that handful are the stars though. They drive the NFL too.

I thought about that as I wrote that line. To some degree they drive, but far fewer players. Nothing like the NFL. If NCAA fantasy football becomes a thing then I will take back my statement. However, I'm sticking to it.

roll, but the day will come when we have a drop off. And, IMHO, all of the newcomers to the scene, will drop off quickly when we are mortal again. And, the fans that got treated with indifference, the ones who were there when you could read CLEMSON in the upper deck, they will be long gone....I wonder what will happen then....

Bowls make their money from tv, not attendance. If Clemson (or any other team) is a middling team playing in a middling bowl, and their star(s) sit out - won't impact ratings nationally for that bowl one bit.
And it won't impact Clemson (or other team's) home games during the season because the player won't declare prior to end of regular season.
If players start sitting out their third year of eligibility entirely then the rules will change, etc etc and a minor league will be put into place.

way too many meaningless bowl games need to get rid of most of them let all the teams have December practices but only 8 win or better teams should be in bowl games

Then the SEC would have to cut their conference schedule to 4 games a year, 1 Power 5 foe and 7 cupcakes per year. That conference is too brutal to have enough 8 win teams to fill Bowl Season with.

shirt rule allows teams to play their young guys in bowl and prepare for next year. I don’t want a 2 loss UGA team winning it all.

Maybe a 2 loss UGA team is better than an undefeated ND or us?

They did choke thanks to their genius coach, but they may be the 2nd best team. They did choke amazingly awfully.

To be fair, they choked once. They were beat up vs LSU. I guess all of the turnovers were kind of choking.

any given team stop playing in bowl hames it will effect attendance. Then you will have fringe players skipping bowl games. The playoffs will expand to 8 teams without regard to what is happening with bowl games. You may see the FCS begin using the remaining bowl games for their playoff games because those cities depend on the revenue brought in by the fans and sponsors. There will come a time when a playoff FCS team will bring more fans than a FBS team with multiple players skipping the game.

Yeah the bowls games are like the NIT in hoops now. The Big Dance is all that matters.
