Both "Catches" came up in discussion. Woody Dantzler setting the record 2000/1000 mark in 2001. Gaines Adams forced fumble for TD against Wake in 2006 was also very memorable. CJ's run against GT in 2007 also.

How about the late Gaines Adams taking that botched field goal to the house at Wake Forrest in 2006. Not a big game or anything, but a great play non the less.

block, but the key to that play was the blitz penetration forcing him so deep into the endzone. Just great all around defense. Great penetration, great pursuit, a great play by Lott, etc.
Haven't seen defenses that tough, that fundamentally sound since the Ford days.
People talk about the speed today, but we had as much, if not more speed on defense back then.

To me the 65+ yard pass from Jimmy "the needle" Addison to Jackie Jackson out of the backfield to finish the comeback against Virginia in 1966. We were behind 35-14 into the 4th quarter and about half the stands empted. Phil Marion intercepted a pass from Dan Quayle in the end zone as the clock ran out to preserve the win. Aside from "THE CATCH" this was the best I ever saw.

I read somewhere years ago, that some of the UVa players on that team would regularly visit the UVa program to encourage/plead with that years team to beat Clemson---until it finally happened.

The pass from Kyle Parker to Jacoby Ford in Miami for the game winning TD comes to mind for me... That was a big win on the road.. Also, the pass from KP to Jamie Harper when he made that awesome diving catch in Aub in 2010.

Ashley Shepard "Pick-6". Caught it on the run and ran 75 or 80 yards for the TD.
That whole game was a beat down. They scored late to make it look respectable, but we flat owned them in that game.
We actually totally dominated in '88 as well, but they stayed in it thanks to Sanders returning a punt 50 yards for a TD and returning a KO to our 30 or 35 that they ended up punching in for their only offensive TD.

Here are a few that come to mind (not in order of importance):
1. Phil Prince's blocked punt against USC to preserve perfect season in 1948 2. David Treadwell beating Georgia in 1986 and 1987 3. Woody finishing off GT in OT in 2001 4. The Catch 5. The Catch II 6. PBU in the end-zone to finish victory over Oklahoma 7. Jacoby Ford's TD in overtime to win at Miami 8. Gaines Adams' TD against Wake 9. Bauman's INT against Ohio State 10. Watkins' final TD against FSU 2011 and the sack to end the game 11. CJ's double juke TD against GT with Gameday in town 12. Jeff Bryant's fumble recovery against UNC in 1981 13. Derrick Hamilton's TD against FSU in 2003 14. Tracy Johnson's helmet popping block to spring Gary Cooper for a TD against Maryland for ACC title 1988 (it is on youtube - please watch it if you don't remember) 15. Perry Tuttle's TD in Orange Bowl 16. David Dunham v Matt Ryan, 2005
I'm sure as soon as I press send I'll think of 5 more

Based on what criteria?
Jun 26, 2012, 3:20 PM
|
|
1. Best Most Amazing 25 Plays?
or
2. Most Important 25 Plays?
Big difference in those 2 things b/c if category 1, there are 100s of amazing plays, plays in losing games, plays that were incredible plays, but had no impacts on the outcome of the game. Whereas category 2 is not necessarily a spectacular play, but an important, or memorable play b/c it won a game.
Two other great polls would be 1. Top plays not made - b/c of a fumble or dropped pass, etc. and 2. Top Plays that broke our hearts - fumblerooskie, push-off by GT TD catch in the endzone.

criteria and clarifying it b/c his question was very open ended and could be left to many interpretations. There are many great Clemson plays, but they are great for different reasons. I don't see the harm in asking him to clarify his open ended question b/c that then determines what is or isn't a great play.
Is it a great play because it was an amazing and spectacular play, or is it a great play because it was a routine play, but won a ball game in spectacular fashion. Like Rodney throwing to an open WR left uncovered to beat UVa on the last play of the game.
Those are two completely different things. Pardon me for asking him to clarify.
