Words of wisdom for recruits (semi-long)

Jul 26, 2012, 10:26 AM

Give up living your life to other people’s expectations.

Way too many people are living a life that is not theirs to live. They live their lives according to what others think is best for them, they live their lives according to what their parents think is best for them, to what their friends, brothers, sisters, teachers, and the media think is best for them. So, don't ignore your inner voice, that inner calling. Don't be so busy pleasing everybody else, with living up to other people’s expectations, that you lose control over your life. Don't forget about yourself. Don't forget what makes you happy, what you want, what you need. You have one life – this one right now – you must live it, own it, and especially don’t let other people’s opinions distract you from your path.

Good advice,I think, that can pretty much apply to everyone. I was the first in my family to attend Clemson, bucking the tradition of going to another large university which shall remain unnamed.

I grew up on the dark side too. My parents went to USC and dad played football and baseball there. It took me a year to tell him I was going to Clemson. I have NEVER regretted that decision! I really love Clemson and would make the same decision, if I had to do it today. You have to do what is always right for you. Sometimes the unpopular choice is the right choice! Go Tigers!
