Y’all’s Hatred for DJ

Sep 5, 2022, 10:39 PM

Is blinding you. He has played much better than last year. The ball is snapped and the defensive tackle is dragging DJ to the ground he throws it away, yall bash him. He had one fumble. But he has been cleaner throwing the ball. He had a drop by ej. That ball to ngata was a decent throw just good defense. So far he hasn’t thrown a pick. You are waiting for any negative play to just bash him. I agree it hasn’t been the prettiest, but if you can’t see he has played better this game then idk what to tell you. The oline has been getting beat on almost every play.

OL play has been way worse than DJU. Playcalling has been very mediocre at times too. Not being able to run against four man fronts is stunning

DW4 nor Trevor had a good O Line in front of them, but they were good enough to win NC's mainly bc of their QB skill!!!

Having receivers like Mike Williams, Renfrow, Leggett, Rodgers, Ross, Higgins, etc… certainly didn’t hurt things either.

The lines Watson had in 2016, as well as the line Lawrence had in 2018 are LIGHT YEARS better than any O-Line DJ has seen since he arrived in the Clemson campus. He has had to work with some VERY bad line play.

Last year's line gave up 1.7 sacks per game. Trevor's last year the line gave up 1.7 sacks per game and he set the Clemson record for passing yards per game. The line was much better under Watson and Trevor largely bc those guys could move well in the pocket and escape when needed. DJ is a bad QB period

Hey man, there isn't a person on earth that I hate, and DJ could throw 42 straight INTs, and I still wouldn't hate him, but I would blame that on Dabo. And the truth is, DJ isn't a very good D1 QB, and if you haven't seen that in 14 games, then you don't know much about what a decent D-1 QB looks like!!!

just proves that we're spoiled. They were generational.

I'd put those two against any college QB of the last two decades along with Burrow's final college season, and they did it more consistently.

I'm tired of people blaming the OL when DJ is rolling out every play for no reason, the OTs are taught to make the DEs go outside and around so the QB can step up in the pocket. DJ has to start stepping up to deliver the ball and not make a B-line for the sideline.

Re: Y’all’s Hatred for DJ

Sep 5, 2022, 10:51 PM

No he’s not. He’s rolling out on design plays to roll out. And they are rolling him to the side that is getting beat constantly. He has had 2 throws on this drive that we’re accurate but dropped.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Y’all’s Hatred for DJ

Sep 5, 2022, 10:53 PM

Those aren't designed rollouts and if they are the blocking scheme is broken, on rollouts you let the DE inside and seal him in. Also the route combinations to that side do not indicate a designed rollout.

No point your ignorance and lack of football knowledge has already shown and I can see where you'd not acknowledge proof. You just got to watch 3 quarters of DJ dancing in the pocket and drifting and rolling out into sacks. DJ finally started standing tall in the pocket and then the good throws came. Stick to madden bud.

Yea you don't know football. #### sure don't know what it means to play OL. Was the OL great, absolutely not. They weren't physical enough in the run game and had some mental mistakes in the passing game, but by and large DJ had time when they weren't blitzing. You ppl don't understand that when 5 are out on routes and 6 defenders are on a blitz it's on the QB to find the hot read.

He didn’t have any touch. I’ve seen Touch tonight. I’ve seen him put the ball on the money. He has made better decisions tonight. Part of it is he isn't what we have been used to. He's not very mobile and his first few steps are slow. He can't just scramble around to make plays and the designed runs look slow.

Defenses feast on that and it'll be an issue against good teams.

You need to read the boards. There is a ton of hate on the board for DJ. And if you wait for him to have one incompletion and jump on here to post about it that is hate. That is pure disdain for him. That’s what happens on here. All it takes is one incompletion. I saw a post titled DJ is horse ###. And like I said I’m not saying he is the greatest quarterback. I’m just pointing out improvement.

Re: Y’all’s Hatred for DJ

Sep 6, 2022, 7:18 AM

I must have watched a different game than most of these people. I don't think that DJ played great, but I think "solid" was a pretty good description of the whole game. I think him throwing the ball away on several occasions shows some maturity, even if it looks ugly on the stat line. I don't remember any throws last night that were really bad throws. He had a couple of short ones that were rockets, but the fade route that we missed to Beaux Collins in the endzone was a nice pass with a lot of touch. I thought that he ran the ball much better, as well, which will help all the way around down the road.

I did think that the line played poorly, but most of it seemed to be on Miller. He was definitely over his head. He is an 18 year old, true freshman that is not only adjusting to what is a new offense for him, but to college life too. He will improve and we have more depth along the line this year in my opinion, so if he doesn't, I am more confident that there is someone else that can come in.

It may not have been the game that I was hoping for, but it did nearly nothing to dampen the hopes and expectations that I have for this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Y’all’s Hatred for DJ

Sep 6, 2022, 8:25 AM

I think DJ played decent last night. I wouldn't say he was great but I also don't think he was terrible. I could name about three specific times that I thought he was just bad. The fumble obviously was bad, he had one play where he just stood there and held onto the ball for way to long. Lastly, he had one throw that was just bad, straight put it into the dirt. In my opinion those 3 plays were the only really "bad" plays by DJ. The wide outs were dropping passes left and right which lowered his % and yardage thrown a significant amount. Finally, the O line did him no favors, he rarely had any time in the pocket.

In short there was a problem with the entire offense imo.

With that said, Klubnik looked really great during his one drive. I was very impressed with that. I don't hate DJ and as stated in this comment I don't think he was even bad last night. I think he has shown improvement. I just don't know if it's enough improvement to hold off Klubnik all year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

For people who don't condone bashing...

Sep 6, 2022, 8:24 AM

college players all of you are very quick to throw offensive linemen under the bus. The freshman right tackle did get beat on several occasions but DJ didn't help matters by rolling into the pressure. Most of the night GT had 8 in the box daring DJ to throw. That makes things tough on an o-line. A good QB should make everyone around him better. Granted he did improve some. This performance was good for 9th best in the ACC as opposed to 14th overall last year.

Conversely, on Cade's laser to the Swinney boy he rolled to his left to buy time for the throw. He has pocket awareness. He reacts to the situation. DJ does not.
