He and his wife both are hacking the things to death. Fully expect these bushes to die. They're hacking off 90% or more of the green.

I think the rule is what? 25%, no more than 1/3? Oh well.

I cut mine back to the ground about every 4 - 5 years

They invariably nest SOMEWHERE in them, and I have to beat the bushes to find the nest, then blow a whole can of spray soaking it, then let it dry, just to trim the things.

I'm pretty shore you can't kill ligustrum cutting it in any amount.

My parents had that across the back of their property line. Stuff grows youge and out of control, not pretty. We ended up cutting it to the ground and pouring used motor oil on the stumps (this was like before EPA was even a thing). Still, it took repeated efforts to kill them.
