Yet again not a popular opinion

Dec 4, 2022, 9:53 AM

Dabo is human much like everyone else and he makes mistakes. We can all agree that Cade should’ve been thrown in the season earlier and Dabo 100000% knows this now too. We NEVER could’ve dreamed of where we currently r as a program. Dabo is 100000% the reason we have 2 natties in the past 7 years and 4 national championship appearances in 8 years and 6 playoff appearances in the last 8 years and 8 ACC championships in 12 years. YES we could’ve been in the playoffs this year if we could’ve had better coaching last week but much like everyone else in the world we make mistakes from time to time. The thing that scares me more than anything is us as fans being so spoiled that we complain so much that we run Dabo off and we’re back to the down years. Not only that we won’t have 11+ wins in a “down” year forever. Eventually we’ll have a 7, 8, or 9 win season. Hopefully it won’t be for a long long time but we need to enjoy what we have. Y’all can bash me all y’all want but I’m VERY VERY VERY thankful to have Dabo as our head coach. And the future of this program looks bright with Cade under center. Anyways GO TIGERS!!!

The 2 NC’s may have had something to do with Venables defense and Scott’s play calling, TL and DW under center and a lot of things not directly Dabo related.

Last time I checked all the people u just mentioned we hear because of Dabo. Dabo hired venables. Dabo also hired Jeff. Dabo hired chad who brought in DW. And Dabo hired whoever was responsible for getting Trevor to Clemson. It ALL runs through Dabo.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Scott was co-oc but never primary play caller

Dec 4, 2022, 10:02 AM [ in reply to Re: Yet again not a popular opinion ]

Yes, he had input but TE called the plays. Either way Dabo hired and lead them all.

Dabo isnt going anywhere

anytime soon.

Two things are true.

1. Dabo is the best we’ve ever had and I’m super grateful for the joy he has brought Tiger nation. We were dormant for 20 years and he brought us back. Forever grateful.

2. He made a mistake with selecting our QB starter this year and his answers as to why are equal parts confusing and disappointing.

But I think he understands fans of any program with big expectations will always prefer to choose winning over blind loyalty. That’s not unique to Clemson. Imagine if he was at Bama and started DJ all year while a more skilled QB was on the sidelines.

You don’t have to imagine, just go back to AL

Message boards from 2017 and read the angst over Hurts starting instead of Tua.

Phils,

Let me just add that his mistake kept all of his players from getting a chance to play for the national championship. That is no small mistake and I think better answers should be forthcoming.

Clemson is clearly the best football school in the ACC

Dec 4, 2022, 10:02 AM

and we are better than any one person. I'm not scared of Dabo leaving.

I also think that it's 100% Dabo's decision, and he deserves that. He has built this program up and put us on the national CFP stage year in and year out, and it would take something extreme or egregious for him to lose the job.

But I can still criticize his terrible decisions. I wish people who actually have his ear or people in the Clemson sports media would do it more often. Maybe he would take a second look at those decisions.

Tom, you need to go back to serving beer at the Study Hall. We have been through the Hootie years. You never want to go there again.

Clemson will never get rid of Dabo. I worry Dabo will get a job offer somewhere and will leave because he’s tired of the Clemson fans complaining and being ungrateful. That’s what I worry about.

Dabo wouldn't get the benefit of the doubt at many other places like he has now at Clemson. Imagine the criticism he'd get from Alabama fans if he blew the Auburn game playing the wrong QB.

Name one school that will buyout Dabo's contract (which can be done) and then pay him 11.5 million or more per year. I'll wait on that answer. His law firm did a tremendous job of squeezing everything they could on this deal. I don't think they can repeat it.

It's really not possible for him to leave - unless he wants to walk away from 11.5 million per year. Nobody will match or beat his contract. He's certainly not doing anything that will violate any ethics clause in his contract. He can continue with his false narrative on Cade (tried to play him at ND but he wasn't ready), stop recruiting, and lose half our games. That's not cause for anything. He will be here for most if not all of the remaining 9 years. Fans can say whatever they wish - he's not walking away and leaving money on the table. I would expect we will win multiple ACC championships during his remaining time. That's likely the ceiling at this point based on the landscape.

Re: Yet again not a popular opinion

Our fanbase has not reacted any differently than any school in the country. No one was calling for Dabo to leave, although Dabo mentioned (unwisely in my opinion) that he will not stay if he is not wanted (frankly don't remember exactly, as it was in a moment of him being asked tough questions). We are not going to run Dabo off and even to suggest that anyone wants to is a little silly.

I do agree that I too am very thankful that Dabo is our head coach.

MEMORY LANE IS A DEADEND STREET! What Dabo did in the past has nothing to do with this season. He did a poor job for his 11 MILLION DOLLAR salary the season That is the fact. Excuses are not need. We waste money on fancy parking lots for this ego driven person who did not do the program any favors this year. ACC Champions of the weakest Conference of the power 5 this season.

U lucky a$$ I accidentally gave u a thumbs up. I meant to hit the down button. How ironic that we’re talking about Dabo making mistakes and I just made one. IT HAPPENS. You are the ungrateful fan I’m referring to. Winning the ACC isn’t easy or other teams would being downing what we’re doing.

This is my problem. It has become obvious Dabo has been telling lies about the situation. No way DJ is ""not ready" last week and looks like a Heisman front runner a week later. There are deeper issues Dabo has been hiding. I would like to know what those issues are. I no longer trust Dabo. I now see him as no morally better than Kirby or Saban.
