I looked up national statistics from last year. The top 40 teams averaged between 7.6-9.6 runs per game. FSU is top 20 perennially, so giving up 8 runs is nothing to be concerned about.

It was a little scary maybe giving up 4 runs so quickly and so early, but fortunately the game lasts 9 innings. It’s difficult to win a game 3-2 when good hitters swing aluminum bats as college players do. One of my friends is a college coach, and every player on his team can hit the ball out on any swing. They can score runs in bunches. We can probably expect 15 runs to be scored when we play a good team.

Personally, I think our pitching staff is pretty solid. At the very least, they are good enough. They will get better as the season progresses.

However our 1st team hitting suffices...as Yogi so eloquently said " good hitting always beats good pitching and visa versa"...
