the season. What is it? Early on, our guys were catching passes on the perimeter, with decent looks for three, and taking those shots. And, we were making them, more often than not. Now, I never was a proponent of "live and die by the three". But, that seems to be this teams identity.

For the last several games, we catch that same pass, and instead of letting it rip, we take two or three dribbles, and now, we are in traffic without a shot, and in danger of losing the possession, which has also happened with increasing frequency. Girrard, especially, should NEVER be dribbling inside, he has no leaping ability to get a shot off in there. He gets blocked just about every time he tries it.

Deal from your strengths. PJ Hall is our only inside guy who can legitimately work himself into a short range, high percentage shot most of the time. Schieff is his wingman, there to clean up misses. The rest of the guys, take the open shot from outside when it is there, and we will get back to winning without these struggles. Or we won't but at least we will be giving ourselves a better chance.

Turning a 21 point lead into a nail bitter is just flat out bad basketball, on any level. It should never have been allowed to happen. We were literally one nearly intercepted pass away from losing that game.

I ignored YOU in particular because you, in all your separate scok forms that you deny, are a total Brad Brownell apologist. You will defend him even if he drove the bus off a cliff with the team on board, while eating a sammich and not paying attention. Brad Brownell is now, just what he was when we hired him, a midmajor coach. He will NEVER have sustained success at Clemson. And, I want change for the basketball program. Just because we do not have a history of success in roundball does NOT mean it is not possible, and that we should continue to settle for mediocrity.

If you’ll notice, I don’t typically comment on game specifics like “we should be blitzing more” or “Cade needs to put a tighter spiral on the ball.“ Those are things the coaches are supposed to do. They are the experts.

My criticisms of our football program are general approaches, which are not specific to the nuances of the game.

Conference finish doesn’t matter these days.

What matters is NET ranking, strength of schedule, record versus quad 1/2, and losses (if any) to quad 3/4.

That’s why we are one of three teams currently in the dance according to dozens of predictions, and not teams ahead of us in the standings who don’t have nearly the resume we do.

Twice since 1985 has the NCAA selection committee skipped over more than one place in selecting a team from the ACC. Not counting Louisville when they had a post season ban. You can keep pretending you know what you're talking about and I'll keep correcting you. The predictions put us as the 3rd of 3 because the projections they look at to make still say we will finish around 4th in conference. They aren't just picking who they think deserves it most. But most of the same models said we would be 8-3 or 7-4 right now. If we go 1-2 against UVA, UNC, and Syracuse that leaves, at best, stuck in pack of 5 win teams with 8 games to go. And, most of those models have FSU flaming out finishing 3-8 after starting 6-3. If they have a similar second half instead they can definitely surpass us and sneak into the tourney. Yes, where we finish in the ACC will most certainly matter as it always has.

It would be one thing if we had a horrible field goal percentage, or lead the nation in turnovers, or couldn’t make free throws, but none of those things are the case. We would expect a poorly coached team to be a lot worse than we are.

There are times when the field goal percentage is horrible, when they make bone headed plays and turn the ball over, they don't defend well, or when they don't shoot FTs well. It's a consistency issue and that, my friend, boils down to coaching.

Clemson basketball has been horrid since I was a student in the early 90's. With the exception of a few good years with Rick Barnes, that is.

Why does anyone act surprised? We stink at basketball, and watching people re-litigate every game we lose on TNET for the last 30 years has become tiresome. TNET basketball fans act the exact same as South Carolina football fans. "Surprised", "clueless", and "delusional" after every loss. Always grasping at straws, and unable to accept the truth. We stink, and we always will as long as Brad Brownell is our Head Coach. Accept that fact and quit expecting anything different than what he's produced over the last 15, or whatever seasons. We're not snake-bit, unlucky, or cursed. We have a terrible head coach, and a lame basketball program. Our fan base is largely clueless and has no idea what a winning basketball program looks like. Which doesn't help.

Fire Brad.

That we play has a quality coaching staff. Our Tigers had success early with Girard making the threes and the other guys contributing also. It didn’t take very long for opponents to defend this strategy and take that part of the game away .... which they have. No coach is dumb enough to allow Girard to have open shots. The game has been changed for Clemson and quite honestly they haven’t responded very well. The Tigers will go just as far as Hall can take them. He has become the victim of very close officiating in key games. Opposing teams will not allow Hall to be “the guy”.

Schieffelin is very capable of being a go to player also ..... and he is developing more with each game. Early fouls have really affected the way the team plays . It was apparent to me that last night coach Brownell used a variety of lineups to force Louisville to make defensive changes.

This will continue to be a season of changes until the team adapts to a different system ..... and they will !

Ball movement so players are not just standing around taking 3s from outside. Once you become one dimensional and dependent on it to win, good teams will take that away from you. What they need to figure out is how/whent to mix that aspect in at opportune times in the game. Just switch into taking some quick outside shots for a few possessions then switch out to post play and driving it to the basket.

I’m sure BB is trying to get them into that kind of multi-dimensional O. The only problem is it is not coming to them naturally in the flow of the game. When they get that inside/outside game rolling and they play solid D, they are hard to beat. Any team is. That is just stating the obvious I know.

Look, I’m not a BB defender. I’m ready to give somebody new a chance. But I don’t think he is a horrible coach either. He seems too nice at times and doesn’t get pissed enough at losing. That Duke game was a well coached game. They played their butts off and had Duke on the ropes. If not for the lopsided reffing, they won that game. Cliff Barnes would have been livid in that game and afterward. And I mean LIVID! BB is never livid about anything. Just ho hum, oh well, Luke warm kind of attitude. We need a fiery, change agent type of leader coaching this team to shake us out of settling for mediocrity.

Last night felt like lineup changes killed continuity. In the first half, we are getting owned by the Cards on the offensive boards and I realize Leyte is the only big in the game. It seemed Brownell was trying to use Louisville as an opportunity to get the bench more minutes (eg Beadle, Clark, Godfrey), but it wasn’t working. In the second half they got back to business with Chase, Hall, Scheff to build the big lead, then back to the bench. Oops, the Cards surge back while the Tigers struggled to wake back up. Really just a poor effort by many players. Right now I’m most frustrated with Girard, but fortunately Chase has picked up his shooting.

Our lack of quality depth is why our Bball team has an uphill battle in the ACC every year. BB can assemble a solid starting 5, but down the stretch either injuries or fatigue takes its toll on them and that is when the wheels start to fall off. Totally understandable given the makeup of the team talent-wise. What really needs to happen is we need to get more solid contributors on the team either via the portal or recruiting. BB has not been anble to accomplish that in the decade plus he has been here.

Spot on post, I've noticed the same
