That's good news about Mullen and Lamar! The D-Line will be fine, but the secondary and the linebackers are going to have to do their job!

Every D is gonna get their butts kicked by this offense

The important thing is that they learn from it. Glad we get to practice against them

Exactly. Almost for certain this is the best offense Clemson has ever put on the field. It's one of the best offenses any CFB team has ever put on the field. And we have a good bit of inexperience on defense. I would expect them to be getting their butts kicked right now. Like you said, they should learn a lot having to play against the best every day.

Sounds like they'll be okay if the CB's can just be more consistent.

It's not too surprising that some of the guys have struggled on defense, considering who they are up against. Not one team on our schedule has this kind of fire power on offense. The Tigers bring back over 7,000 yards of combined rushing and passing from last year's squad. They lose a couple of receivers but bring back Mike Williams. Goooo Tigers!!!!

I'd hate to have to put together a defensive game plan to stop that crowd. It will be fun to watch them this year.

trick is, you don't know what level of the D he was up against...1st string, 2nd string, 3rd string...mix of 2nd and 3rd? If he had those stats against a complete 2nd or 3rd string, it's not as bad as it seems...that'd just mean the backups as a whole unit need work (which would be expected for guys with little to no experience). I mean, let's look at it this way..>Adam Choice is technically the 2nd string option at RB...but this is the same guy that led Gallman before he was injured, so it's like potentially having a 1st string RB out there against a 2nd string D. If it was our 1st string D though, then there's reason to worry. But hard to tell when we don't know the player mixes.

A few guys just need to improve gap discipline and improve their angles on some lanes. A lot of this is coachspeak.

I'd like to know about Boulware's assignments

...during the two Choice long runs and Wayne's 99 yard scamper. I am hopeful Mr Boulware is remaining disciplined.

Who said Boulware was on the field on any of them? Did they tell everyone which players were the defenders...who was the D line, who the LB's were? For all we know, all 3 might have happened vs 3rd string guys.

Jadar said in an interview today that he would throw in Mullen at corner on his side of the field any day. That he trusts him in one on one coverage.

Mark Fields May Have To Be That Nickel Guy ----
Aug 15, 2016, 5:28 PM
|

Right now it sounds like Mullen maybe a little lower than M. Alexander was but Mullen's height may help him come full circle in time.
It looks like there is a lot to play with here between corner and nickel. I would keep Mullen at corner but lead off with Edmonds when he gets back. That way you have Edmonds, Mullen, Fields, Wallace and Baker when Baker gets back to at least 80%
At nickel I like Wiggins, Carter, Fields and Wallace.

Had to look up who Wallace was, forgot about Kvon

We recruited him for such a short period of time before signing day I always forget about him. Didn't Wallace play mostly WR in HS? I thought he had been committed to Cinncinatti as a WR for sometime, maybe he played equal of both.

V is gonna have that D to top 10 again - mark it.
and then next year - we will be reading the same ######...for the 3rd year in a row...and with the same results...Coach V is the original "NASTY".

Any word on Christian Wilkins?

He was a standout much of the season last year but I haven't heard a single thing about him this year...I'm getting nervous about a potential sophomore slump.

Christian will be a first round draft pick when he leaves for the NFL. He'll be a beast this year.
