If you are good enough to keep your job with a win, you shouldn’t need that win to keep your job. Conversely, if you are in a position to lose your job with one loss, that one loss isn’t what cost you your job. I’m sure Neff is a smart guy and has already considered this.

You need more than two hands to count the number of times Clemson has BrownL'd in the last 14 seasons.

If you had a specific goal for your job, and it was really the only goal… And you were given 14 years, paid millions and millions of dollars given the things that you asked for to be successful… And you still can’t accomplish that goal… You should be gone. In fact, you should’ve been gone along before 14 years ever elapsed.

What was THE goal? Not your natty or bust I hope. WE DON'T HAVE THE PLAYERS. PJ is going to get drafted and make a team but he'll have an ### full of splinters like Tyson does.
"Brownell's Best Team Ever" doesn't mean it's anywhere near as talented as the Dukies and Heels. We overachieve when we beat them.

to protect the coach.

The whole nation saw what this roster was capable of earlier in the season when we vaulted up the national polls after showing their capabilities on the court. Going .500 the last 2/3 of the season when the calendar turned with that talent doesn't exactly speak well of the program's leadership.

Go Tigers!

Small minded thinking. Thank GOD Dabo destroyed that crap in football. With thinking like yours, Tommy West would be coaching Clemson into 6-8 wins per season. SMH. I’m so glad you’re not a big time booster. We can be as successful as we want to be. Ask Creighton. Ask UConn. Ask Houston. Ask UNLV. Ask Loyola of multiple locations. Ask Butker. Ask a litany of other tiny schools that don’t have the money Clemson does. It’s all about investing in the best coaches money can buy and building facilities that rival anyone’s. That’s how Dabo built success. He built the best facilities and hired the best coaches. That attracted top recruits and equated to two Nation Championships. Something we’ve only experienced ONCE in history prior to Dabo. I really can’t understand your mindset. I guess if your wife always cheated you’d accept it because it’s been your history. You’re the lunatic fringe. Believing we can’t win because we never had. That’s insanity.

WE DON'T HAVE THE PLAYERS

WHOSE JOB IS IT TO RECRUIT THE PLAYERS?

It took Brownell a dozen years at the helm to put more than one 4* recruit on the floor at the same time.

This year he had 2 starters with 4* (Hall, C Hunter), plus the ACC's 3rd best 3-point shooter in history, plus the ACC's most improved player, plus about as much experience as a team can ask for, with Scheifflin (Jr) and the rest all 4 and 5th-year seniors.

And this is what he did with it?

The obvious first and unstated goal is "Don't be a laughingstock." Also, make every team that beats you know they had to fight for every point, that you'll never quit (think Rocky I, he lost, but Creed knew he'd just been in the fight of his life). Brownell's teams fail to do both of those regularly. Faceplant after embarrassing faceplant.

Then there's 20+ wins, top 4 in ACC, win games in ACCT, make NCAAT, win games in NCAAT.

If the team's goals do not include an ACCT title and a Final Four, why bother playing any games. Surely the football team and baseball teams have goals that include the ACC championship and CFP or Omaha, respectively.

P.S. I'm starting to think that this is Judge Keller's mean sock.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The goal is to play increasingly better each season.

However, with Brownell, we get the same bad coaching mistakes and uninspired play year after year.

If the results are pretty much the same every year for 14 years, then the problem ISN’T the players, it’s the person leading the program — the head coach. Apparently Brownell hasn’t learned ANYTHING in 14 years if we keep making the same mistakes.

It’s time to get a new head coach and change the trajectory of the program for the better.

I agree. It's the body of work over time and at some point either the positives need to out weigh the negatives. If there are more negatives, the last straw will eventually fall on the camel's back because the body of work does not meet expectations.

We don't know what those expectations are from his boss and so be it.

This post is making a point about evaluating a coach's performance and job security in a way that goes beyond the outcomes of individual games. Let's break down the two main ideas:

"If you are good enough to keep your job with a win, you shouldn’t need that win to keep your job."

This suggests that a coach's overall performance and value to the team should be assessed based on more than just the results of one game. If a coach is truly effective and has proven their worth through consistent performance, strategic acumen, and positive influence on the team, then their job security shouldn't hinge on whether they win or lose a specific match. A decision to retain a coach should be based on a comprehensive evaluation of their contributions and not a single win.

"Conversely, if you are in a position to lose your job with one loss, that one loss isn’t what cost you your job."

This statement argues that if a coach is on the verge of being fired and their job security is threatened by the outcome of one game, it's not the loss in that game that's the real issue. Instead, it implies that there must have been underlying problems or a series of failures leading up to this point. These could include poor team performance over time, lack of progress, failure to meet objectives, or other factors that, when taken together, suggest the coach is not meeting expectations. Essentially, it's saying that a single game's result is not the root cause of the coach's job insecurity but rather a symptom of broader issues.

The mention of "Neff" likely refers to a person in a decision-making position, possibly an athletic director or someone in a similar role, who would be responsible for evaluating a coach's performance. The post assumes that Neff is aware of these perspectives and would consider them in any decision-making process regarding the coach's employment. This reflects an understanding that the decision to retain or dismiss a coach should be based on a holistic assessment of their performance and contributions to the team, rather than reactive decisions based on the outcomes of individual games.

Ok. I’m taking it that you’re supporting NOT firing CBB. That’s insanity. Based on his history, he doesn’t belong in a major conference as a head coach. He did well at UNCW. He even won three conference championships and tournament championships (2CAA 1 Horizon). He’s been to the NCAAT and played 9 games. Two were automatic qualifiers as 16 seeds and were one and done. He has a been one and done every time but two. He won one game and won two games. He’s paid pretty well and comparable coaches have achieved much more consistent NCAAT success. For Brad, NCAAT appearances are almost outliers in a 23 year career. He’s Tommy Bowden. It’s a career of mediocrity that should have seen him fired after year five. It’s always “one game” that ends up being the death knell for coaches.

I don’t understand the insanity of supporting mediocrity. A successful program has a fairly simple equation. It start with great coaches. Brad isn’t a great coach. There are reports he’s abusive towards players and we’ve all seen images of him shoving JG3. Why not build a winning program. One that is always considered the path to the ACC championship and vying for a one seed in the ncaa?! Thought processes like yours would have kept Ken Hatfield and Tommy Bowden as head coaches. We don’t need small minded honking like this around our programs.

It's not necessarily the "last" game that makes or breaks you. It's like dropping a Christmas Tree bulb that bounces across the floor. It was gone when you dropped it. But it didn't break until the last bounce.

Tommy Bowden didn't lose his job because he lost to Wake Forest.

That was just the last in a series of bizarre and embarrassing losses, which a few surprising big wins just could not offset.

It should come down to a body of work over 14 years and your ability to take a team and win championships. What is the verdict? I’m looking for a coach to have a higher ceiling and one the fans will unite behind. You make the call. Do we have our man already?
