Interesting data.

Not covid related so this is probably the wrong board. A complete look, month by month, of Non-covid excess deaths in the UK. Couple of things are obvious. First they missed a lot of covid deaths early in the pandemic as they were recorded not covid deaths. Second is the recent data. That kinda speaks for itself.

By itself - that chart doesn't tell me a lot

What do the negative percentages mean (all the blocks in "green")? Are they a reduction in the number of deaths compared to some average? If so what is the average and over what time period was that average calculated?

The only generalization that can be made is that there are more excess deaths in 2022 (on average) than in the past 2 years but without actual numbers of deaths and some context behind those numbers it is all rather meaningless to me...

Agree. I thought the same.

Negative/Green means below average (expected deaths)

Worldwide, when covid hit, they calculated average/expected deaths based on averaging 2014-2019 data (5 years before covid hit). CDC, European Union, UK, etc. all agreed to set averages based on 5 years prior to 2019 (2014-2019). They froze that so they could calculate excess deaths post covid to see the impact. This chart OMITS covid deaths. These are people dying from everything "other than covid".

There's your context. In that context you can then extrapolate covid deaths, then other excess deaths. This data shows something very clearly. Excess NON-covid deaths, this year, are higher than they should be. It spans all age groups.

Furthermore, these averages are broken down into age groups, and further by gender. Actuaries and life insurers have already mentioned something else this data shows, actually this data consists of NON-covid deaths. But total excess deaths (covid and non covid - another chart), shows what no one really understands (except actuaries), or choose to ignore, either way. The key is breaking the (percentage of) excess deaths down by age groups. This way you can see how the virus impacts a certain age group. We were all told covid is deadliest for the elderly, just look at the numbers! 12 times more old people are dying from covid than young people. What people don't understand, or ignore, is that 10 times LESS 20-40yo people NORMALLY die anyway. But if you look at the 20-40yo group, the PERCENTAGE of excess deaths they've suffered is actually HIGHER than the elderly, RELATIVE to their age group. We don't appreciate how many more older people die (normally) than younger people. So the chart fields show the number of people, PER AGE GROUP, dying in excess, or less, among THEIR AGE GROUP ONLY. Good luck finding this data at the CDC website. You can't without doing some custom charts. Try and google or find a chart showing excess deaths in the US, broken down as a percentage from expected, by age group.

The high excess NON-COVID deaths, among all age groups, this year suggests one of two things (depending on your politics evidently). Explanation #1 is "immunity debt", or this idea we all hunkered down for years, were locked down for years, wore masks for years, kids were out of school for years, and as we reopened, evidently this year, we lost our immunity to many common viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc. Explanation #2 is immune damage from prior covid infections. Now this is wholly ignored, despite a lot of science, and real world observations. There are many studies showing CD8 T cells and B cells, in particular, are almost completely wiped out by covid infections, mild, severe, asymptomatic even, in all age groups. The damage covid infections do to CD8 T cells is on par with the damage HIV does to CD4 T cells. Some damage, like the damage to CD4 T cells, recovers after a covid infection. But CD8 T cells and B cell damage lasts at least 6 months after an infection. You get covid twice a year, well.... Then you have real world observations. The CDC added a new color (purple) to their ILI map because they did not have a color to show the levels in some states being literally "off the charts". And those states with ILI off the charts, they would obviously be the states that locked down the longest, wore masks the most, etc. Nope, it's the states who did it the least who got hit the hardest.

So that chart shows more people are dying from things that are not covid, RELATIVE TO THEIR AGE GROUP, than died from things that were NOT COVID, from 5 years averages before covid. If you went back to 2019 and looked at that same chart, and saw the same data from 5 years prior, you would see that the numbers usually stayed in a range of +/- 0-3%. So when you see 10%, 15%, that is VERY abnormal, historically.

Oh, I forgot the third possibility, it's the vaccine. That one will stand the test of time forever. And you can just ignore Alabama, Mississippi, SC, etc. with the country's lowest vaccination rates, shortest lockdown time, and least mask wearing, being in the brand new purple color on the CDC ILI map, since we're off the charts.

If you have kids who are sick, go try and get some albuterol or Motrin or Tylenol for them. Good luck. You'll need some to find it.
