I can't recall any media outlet saying to rush to the ER if you test positive with no symptoms. Could be wrong, though. If people are that freaked out, they should just go to CVS, get a $20 oximeter if they test positive and if your pulse ox gets below 90, then call your dr and see if he/she wants you to go.

Actually xtiger if you spent 9 years working in an ER as I did it makes perfect sense. Fear is one of the most contagious things you can “catch” from others. I can’t tell you how many times we had someone come to the ER and say “my daddy had a heart attack last week and I felt a little pain in my chest yesterday “, or “my sister has Lime disease and I was on the same hiking trip so maybe I got a tick ?” Now think about how 2 years of relentless Covid news and endless “variants” might weigh on the psyche of those at risk for “catching fear”.

ER's have always been filled with a lot of useless stuff. Many years ago when moonlighting in the ER as a resident, I remember seeing a 17 yr old in because a bee stung him the day before. He had zero symptoms. I also remember a family coming in because one of the kids vomited in the grocery store, so they all wanted to be checked out.

The vast majority of the folks who come to the ER do NOT have an emergency. Nothing new here.

When a patient hits the ER, they must be seen regardless of how stupid their "emergency" is.

I'm sure this same issue is going on in other states.

Remember when “ER” was a hit tv show? One night we had a patient on a slow night. He said “they should make the tv show like the real ER”. I asked how so? He said “order some tests, wait around, treat a cold , wait around, treat a back ache, wait around, order more tests, wait around …..”. I asked if he thought people would watch that show? He said”not a chance”.
