A nice addition to the ongoing End Time discussion.

Depending on one's beliefs, the Rapture is either a newer (since 1830's maybe, with Darby) interpretation of the End Time, or a newly 'revealed' End Time interpretation.

The difference being that it's either a new way of interpreting older prophecy, or it's prophecy that has existed all along, but no one, or not many, were aware of it till recently.

That is, the roots of the concepts are Jewish, but the Jews themselves never speak of Rapture, that I know of. So if it did exist from creation, they didn't seem to be aware of it.

The Jewish understanding of End Times (extra Biblical sources aside) ends with Daniel, which is a slightly deceptive book. The first part is set in the 600 BCEs, and the later part is set about 150 before Jesus was born. But that doesn't mean it was actually written in 600ish BCE. It's a complex book that I'll get to a post or two from now.

I plan on finishing up the Jewish view of the End with Zechariah, Malachi, Joel, and then Daniel. And once that background is laid, we'll move into Christianity.

So that'll be a good time to compare the Jew's view with the Christian view, and the Rapture view as a part of the overall Christian view.

It was an enjoyable watch. Thanks for the post!

Jesus predicted that the end of times was going to occur within his followers lifetime.

His prophecy failed just like every other religious nut job that has claimed the end was near.

That's not only nasty but so wrong.

Matt 3:

"1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

John wasn't talking about the end of time(s) there. He was talking about the beginning of the salvation which the Hebrews had longed for since Eve was promised her seed would cover the price of sin. John was talking about the spiritual kingdom of God.

So was Christ when He spoke of the coming Kingdom which began when He died on the cross and paid the debt for sin as was promised to Eve in the Garden.

This must be about the 3rd or 4th time I've responded to you when you falsely accused Jesus of promising the return of Christ, day of judgement, the end of days or the end of the world. Paul wrote about that misunderstanding in both of his letters to Thessaloniki.
