tap dancing ensues. "Well that's a hypothetical w/o enough detail for me to say..."

They've already helped Trump enough postponing until today for considering this, and prob won't announce their opinion until their end of term in June. But they can still do the right thing and say Pres doesn't have total immunity. And doing it today would be swell.

I mean those favors Clarence owes aren’t going to repay themselves.

precedence for all time going forward, which could take a rilly long time. The gov't lawyer was saying, well, this has only happened twice, Nixon and Trump, so maybe you can just decide this one. Lib justices seem to be on that track too.

I will say the gov't guy was super sharp, prepared, and quick, while Trump's lawyer was, well, not. Those sessions are like game shows where they slap a clock to start or stop the clock, or like they've been edited to remove pauses. Hard to keep up as a casual listener, much less the participants, esp when they can quote from relevent case law instantly off the top of their head.

You're acting like there's an actual trial going on, with actual facts and cases being considered.

They're in the tank for Trump. They're going to do whatever they have to, to make sure he doesn't get tried before the election. Which is of course the complete opposite of what their duty is and is effectively giving him immunity without giving him immunity, like we're stupid. My guess would be they'll kick it back down to the lower courts for some reason, effectively ensuring he doesn't get tried before November.

This is the most bent court I can ever remember.

country for official executive actions while President... that's absurd. There NEEDS to be laws stipulating the differences. That takes time.

As to waiting, it's the prosecutors in all these cases that waited till campaign season to bring charges.

end of their session, wut, like there's something nefarious about that? They're a thoughtful, deliberative group of non-political thinkers. No thumb on the scale there. This is just another case for them to deliberate. I mean, Clarence Thomas didn't even need to recuse himself. He's got no bias.

It's not like they just get together at lunch and ask the Magic 8 ball.
