Zerubbabel is not an archetype of Christ; he is an archetype of the beast. Allow me to elaborate...

Haggai 2:21-23
King James Version
21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

23 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts.

He says He will TAKE thee...

Revelation 19:20
King James Version
20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

The beast was TAKEN. A signet ring is a symbol of a king's authority. When God has the beast thrown into the lake of fire, that is the ultimate sign of His authority. This same concept applied to pharaoh (Exodus 9:16); God raised up pharaoh so He could show His power through him by judging him & Egypt. You also cannot be deceived by the word "servant" in relation to Zerubbabel because not everyone called servant is a good guy. Nebuchadnezzar was called God's servant in the OT on more than one occasion. There is also evil servants (Matthew 24:48). Zechariah 11:15-17 tells us that God raises up the idol shepherd. Isaiah 10 tells us that God sends the Assyrian. Revelation 17 tells us that God gets the 10 kings to give the beast their power.

Joshua is archetype of Christ in Zechariah 6. He builds & bears the glory of the temple and has many crowns. He is predicted to sit on a throne and rule as a priest from his throne. No such things are said about Zerubbabel.
2 chapters prior to this. Zerubbabel built a literal temple...the beast will build a literal temple. Joshua's temple reference was alluding to the future true temple of Christ and His literal presence among us after the 2nd coming.

Zerubbabel means, "stranger at Babylon". The beast is worshipped as a "strange god" that his fathers knew not. (Daniel 11:38-39). He plants his palace in Jerusalem (Daniel 11:45 & Revelation 11:7-8) which is mystery Babylon. (Zechariah 14:12 cross referenced with Revelation 17:16-17 & Revelation 18's many references to people standing off afar for fear of her torment). God's home is New Jerusalem (Revelation 3:12). Satan wants to be like God (Isaiah 14:14) so he will set up shop in earthly Jerusalem. Stranger at Babylon. Zerubbabel also means "dispersion of confusion". The idol shepherd leaves the flock (Zechariah 11:15-17) and the sheep are scattered (John 10:12 calls him a hireling). The beast chases the Israeli remnant church of Pergamos into the wilderness (Revelation 12:6 & 14)...dispersion of confusion. And coincidentally, Jewish tradition says that Zerubbabel "gave up" on Jerusalem and went back to Babylon at some point and some actually think that Zechariah 11's idol shepherd was at least partially fulfilled by Zerubbabel. Then there is this...

Sheshbazzar
edit
The Book of Ezra begins with Cyrus the Great entrusting the Temple vessels to Sheshbazzar (Hebrew: שֵׁשְׁבַּצַּר, Modern: Šešbaṣár, Tiberian: Šēšbaṣṣar, "prince of Judah", probably from Akkadian: 𒌓𒀜𒋀, romanized: Šamaš-abu-uṣur[14][15]); this apparently important figure disappears from the story entirely after being named in Ezra 1:8 and Ezra 5:14, and Zerubbabel is abruptly introduced as the main figure. Both are called governors of Judah and are both credited with laying the foundation of the Temple. A number of explanations have been proposed, including: (1) the two are the same person; (2) Sheshbazzar was in fact Shenazzar (probably from Akkadian: 𒂗𒍪𒋀, romanized: Sîn-uṣur),[16] Zerubabbel's uncle (mentioned in the Books of Chronicles); (3) Sheshbazzar began the work and Zerubbabel finished it.[17]

Sheshbazzar & Zerubbabel are the same person. Sheshbazzar disappears and then Zerubbabel is abruptly introduced. Typologically speaking this matches the myriad of prophecies about the beast (king 7) dying and resurrecting as king 8 (false prophet) who is of the 7. The only way that math is ever gonna work is if 2 kings are sharing a body. Which is why anyone telling you that the beast & false prophet have separate bodies do not know what they are talking about. They & the dragon comprise an unholy trinity inside the assassinated body of king 7. If king 8 had a separate body from king 7, then the beast in Revelation 13 would have grown an 8th head after the one was wounded to death (heads = kings). But that does not happen; the wounded head is simply "healed". Sheshbazzar/Zerubbabel...same body. But wait, it gets better....

"The prophets Zechariah and Haggai both give unclear statements regarding Zerubbabel's authority in their oracles, in which Zerubbabel was either the subject of a false prophecy or the receiver of a divine promotion to kingship."

Subject of FALSE PROPHECY....but not in the sense that these secular scholars think. Sheshbazzar = first beast/king 7. Zerubbabel = false prophet/king 8 who is of the 7 (shares body with king 7). Divine promotion to kingship; again, see Isaiah 10's Assyrian, see pharaoh in Exodus 9:16, see Zechariah 11's idol shepherd, see Revelation 17:16-17. God raises him up (double meaning/bring to power & resurrect) because only God has authority to set up kings and only God has power over life, death, & resurrection.

Arguably the best evidence that Zerubbabel is an archetype of the beast and not Christ is the fact that the Orthodox Jewish Bible has footnotes that point to Zerubbabel being an archetype of Christ. What group is going to wrongly believe that the beast will be their messiah??

John 5:43
King James Version
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

Chaggai 2:21-23
Orthodox Jewish Bible
21 Speak to Zerubavel, Governor of Yehudah, saying, I will shake HaShomayim and Ha’Aretz;

22 And I will overthrow the throne of mamlachot (kingdoms), and I will destroy the chozek (strength) of the mamlachot HaGoyim; and I will overthrow the merkavot, and those that ride in them; and the susim and their riders shall fall, every one by the cherev (sword) of achiv.

23 In that yom, saith Hashem Tzva’os, will I take thee, O Zerubavel ben Sh’altiel, Avdi (My Servant; T.N. see Yeshayah 52:13 for this Avdi‖My Servant‖as a reference which is ultimately related to Moshiach), saith Hashem, and will make thee as a chotam (signet ring); for I have chosen thee, saith Hashem Tzva’os.

Another interesting typological connection involves the temple that Zerubbabel built. It was "refurbished & expanded into a magnificent edifice" by Herod according to historians. Zerubbabel (the beast) builds the 3rd earthly temple, but the Lord comes back and replaces it with the most glorious temple of all; Himself. And interestingly enough; Herod has a handful of meanings. One of them is "Free man" and is derived from the verb 'arad which means "be free". Cross reference that with...

Galatians 4:26
King James Version
26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

&

2 Corinthians 3:17
King James Version
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Typologically speaking if Zerubbabel is the false prophet (8th king who is of the 7) this makes even more sense when you consider that the false prophet enforces the mark (666) and Solomon took in 666 talents of gold (1 Kings 10:14/2Chronicles 9:13) & Zerubbabel is of Solomon's lineage. God never called Zerubbabel a king over His people. He was called governor and was appointed by the Persians (within the will of God). The beast will not be king over God's people (throne of David/Christians) but over "the throne of kingdoms" that gets thrown down in Haggai 2:21-23. The beast is appointed king over the world by the 10 kings...within the will of God (Revelation 17:16-17).

The temple that Zerubbabel built also is a dead give away as to who he represents. This temple was completed in Ezra 6:15....

Ezra 6:15
King James Version
15 And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.

Chapter 6...verse 15...1 & 5 make 6. In the 6th year of Darius...6 letters....3rd day of Adar...the 6th month of the civil calendar & the 12th month of the religious calendar...12 = 2 6's. And of course this becomes doubly interesting when we cross reference it with...

Isaiah 14:29
King James Version
29 Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

Out of satan (serpent) comes a cockatrice (antichrist)...and the numbers 6 & 12 (Adar month) are associated with the folklore about the cockatrice...

"The Cockatrice first began to take shape in the late 14th century. This mythical beast had the head of a rooster while its body was dragon like, with a long, strong tail. Some believed the Cockatrice was imagined from the Archaeopteryx dinosaur because it resembles it quite a bit. The cockatrice was about the size of a chicken, sparrow or, in some reports, as big as a dragon. However, most believed the cockatrice was between 6 and 12 inches tall."

https://www.breedersacademy.com/the-mythical-beast-the-cockatrice/

And lastly, the beast will deceive the whole world including many who call themselves Christians. Think about that as you see the overwhelming majority of theological "giants" & scholars claim that Zerubbabel = Christ.

I also neglected to include this in the post...

Zechariah 4:7
King James Version
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

Now compare...Who is the great mountain?

Daniel 2:35
King James Version
35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

So that means Zerubbabel is doing what?

Revelation 13:6
King James Version
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
