Herbstreit worried about Clemson's offensive balance |
The ESPN College Football Gameday crew previewed the upcoming rivalry matchup between No. 3 ranked Clemson vs. No. 24 South Carolina on Saturday night.
Desmond Howard: "Presnap reads that is the mental approach of being a quarterback and to me, he's (Kelly Bryant) come a long way as the season has progressed and that is the difference right now from the first game to now with Kelly Bryant is as a quarterback. Physically all the tools, but mentally he is starting to understand things." Kirk Herbstreit: "Without a doubt. Those reps have helped him and the game has slowed down but I'm still concerned about them being balanced. If you really watch Clemson, one thing that becomes pretty clear is that they can run the football, quarterback can run the football, and they are going to throw a lot of quick passes to try to simplify his reads. In fact if you look at the last three or four games, that is a big part and a new trend looking at those numbers, they are throwing the ball very short. He is not having success throwing the football 15 yards or further down the field. So if you are South Carolina, you got to roll the dice, take a chance, rivalry game at home, put everybody at the line of scrimmage against their plus one quarterback run game. Leave your corners on islands, blitz the quarterback and make him give get rid of the ball and until he can consistently show you he can throw the ball downfield, what do you have to lose." Lee Corso: "No matter where the game is played, the Clemson defense travels well. They got a great defense and they are No. 3 in scoring defense in the nation and they've only allowed five rushing touchdowns all year. Clemson will win this game but it will be a low scoring game."
