Olympic Ice Skating Gets A Rival ---

Breakdancing is now an Olympic event.

Because of THIS..I STRONGLY and STERNLY believe that 7 on 7.. or... 5 on 5 .. or...4 on 4 football should be an Olympic event.

Could be 5 on 5 with each team/country having a total of 10 players ....on a 60 yard football field. A quarterback with 4 receivers against 4 defenders will be on the field of play. 6 players on the sidelines as reserves for defense... while 4 on the field playing defense against the 5 on the field playing offense.. with the 5th guy on offense only playing quarterback ...while the other 5 offensive reserves are on the other sideline. Quarterback only plays quarterback unless substituted with another....and all quarterbacks are not allowed to run passed the line of scrimmage.

Same thing could be done with 4 on 4......have 3 receivers with the 1 quarterback passing the ball against 3 defenders.

Could be a flag or a tackle game.

It could be an awesome event and as exciting as Track and Field..and Basketball.

I think the best way to do this would be 7v7 or 8v8 (depending on if you want 2 or 3 linemen).

Play Candian style rules in terms of presnap motion and being able to run toward the line.

The one adjustment would have to be flag or wrap up style tackling. My preference would be wrap up to be down with light/medium padding instead of full football pads.

Full contact tackling would make it tough to get a full tournament done in the time frame of the Olympics.

I think with the above rules you would get an incredibly exciting "football" game that would be easy for countries around the world to adopt.

The negative of this idea is that, if it draws a major audience, some of the pansies would want to replace real football with this lighter contact version.
