ESPN: "Unbelievable" no one's betting on Clemson |
The reigning national champion Tigers begin a campaign to shock the college football world come Saturday at noon.
Or at least just those folks who frequent Vegas. Preseason betting odds for a Clemson championship repeat have dropped from 20-1 to as low as 35-1 per an ESPN report. In fact, there are 13 teams ahead of the Tigers on the betting market, led by Alabama, which is seeing 20 percent of the action (per William Hill, via ESPN). "I have like no money on (Clemson). It's unbelievable," South Point casino sportsbook director Chris Andrews told ESPN. "I still think they're going to be pretty good. I've jacked up their odds, certainly looking for a bet." Alabama is a 5-2 favorite overall and have held that status by-game in 97 of its last 98 contests per ESPN, including opening as a touchdown favorite before the 35-31 loss to Clemson in January. They are a touchdown favorite as well versus Florida State for Saturday's game in Atlanta. Quarterback questions likely have the Tigers with some trust to earn nationally, as a Deshaun Watson-led Clemson was among the top-three favorites by the odds last season (with Alabama and Ohio State).
