Venables confirms reports of interest from Arkansas |
It seems like an annual thing with Clemson assistant coaches being named finalists for the Broyles Award as Co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott is a finalist this season for the award.
Elliott and former Broyles Award winner Brent Venables are in Little Rock, AR for the prestigious Broyles award ceremony which will be held on Tuesday. Venables joined Sportstalk with Bo Mattingly on Monday and answered if he was a candidate for the vacant head coaching position at Arkansas. "That’s a tough thing to answer," Venables smiled. "I have not spoken to anybody but my representatives have, and I’ll leave it at that." Venables has been linked as a possible candidate alongside former Clemson coach Chad Morris and Memphis coach Mike Norvell according to CBSSports.com. We asked Brent Venables if he's a candidate for the Arkansas job. Here's his response: pic.twitter.com/JsytaCUkc7 Clemson DC Brent Venables on the show now. Good stuff. Ventables: It churns my stomach when I see these 62-59 type games. You have to be able to stop people. Venables on what he looks for in a job: You want to see alignment from the top down. And you want places where you have a chance to be successful. Venables: I’ve had opportunities to be a head coach throughout my career and as recently as last week, but my moral compass has told me to be loyal to where I am. Venables: Chad Morris is an outside-the-box thinker and an incredible football coach. Venables: Chad Morris was instrumental and played a part in me coming to Clemson. Venables on how well he knows Chad Morris: "Yeah, I bought his house. Chad’s a good friend of mine." Elliott on former boss Chad Morris: If he’s a candidate for the Arkansas job, they can’t go wrong.
