by - Assoc. Editor -

Minnesota Vikings safety Jayron Kearse was arrested this past Sunday for on suspicion of drunk-driving and carrying a firearm without a permit.

Kearse talked to the media this week and said the arrest is not a reflection of who he is as a person.

“First and foremost, I would like to apologize publicly to the team, to the fans, for my actions over this past weekend," he said. "It’s not a reflection of who I am as a person or what this organization stands for. The team and these fans deserve better. I definitely take this matter very seriously, and I’m sorry for putting anybody in harm’s way. I’ll go through all the necessary steps to improve myself."

The Vikings released the following statement after hearing about Kearse's arrest:

"We are aware of Jayron's arrest and are gathering additional information at this time."

The Vikings' next game will be Nov. 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs. No word yet if there will be suspension handed down for Kearse by the NFL or Vikings.

Kearse has 16 tackles and a pass breakup this season.
