Hunter Renfrow out with broken bone in hand |
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney updated the condition of
Hunter Renfrow's hand injury that he suffered during his touchdown catch against Troy on Saturday.
Swinney said the following during his Sunday night teleconference with the media. "We expect Hunter to practice," Swinney said. "He finished the game. He's got a place under his thumb area that they're going to check tomorrow but they don't think it's anything that will keep him out." However, after an MRI, doctors determined that Renfrow had cracked a bone below his thumb (a scaphoid fracture) and will miss more than a month. Swinney did say that he expects Renfrow to be back for Florida State. “We thought Hunter was going to be fine, but the MRI on Monday showed a little crack below his thumb,” said Swinney on his Monday night radio show, Tiger Calls. “He could play with it, but the injury would make it more difficult to hold on to the ball when he tried to tuck it away. He will have surgery to repair it and miss a few weeks. We hope to have him back for the NC State game, but certainly by the Florida State game after the open date.” Renfrow has four receptions for 62 yards and two crucial touchdowns this season. For his career, he has 37 catches for 554 yards and seven scores. Ray Ray McCloud is expected to move into the starting lineup with Renfrow’s injury. McCloud is coming off a game in which he had seven receptions for a career-high 86 yards.
