Xavier Dye Will Now Remain a Clemson Tiger |
CLEMSON -- According to WCCP 104.9FM 's Mickey Plyler and now confirmed by Clemson sports information, Clemson wide receiver Xavier Dye will stay on the team. Plyler, who has been in contact with someone close to Dye, said Dye would be at practice on Thursday.
Clemson officials were leaving the door open for Dye to change his mind and return to the team earlier Thursday. That door appeared to have closed when Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, while doing his weekly radio interview with Dan Scott on Cruise Control on WCCP, confirmed Dye would be leaving the program. Since that interview, Swinney met with Dye and he decided to remain at Clemson. He will not play in Saturday’s game against Boston College. Dye entered the 2009 campaign as the starter, and had 10 catches to that point in his Clemson career. He started the season opener against Middle Tennessee State, but only caught one pass for four yards. Following that contest, he was shifted to second string, behind Brandon Clear, and did not play at all in last Thursday’s loss at Georgia Tech.
