Shaffer signs with Rays

Shaffer signed his contract with the Rays for a reported $1.71 million in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Friday afternoon. In years past, drafted players had until mid-August to sign with their respective teams. This year, the deadline was 5 p.m. Friday.

“Just officially became a Tampa Bay Ray! I could get used to wearin (sic) this!” Shaffer said on Twitter, posting a photo of him wearing a Rays jersey while standing beyond the outfield fence at Tropicana Field.
