Kevin Alexander did not steal a lot of headlines on Signing Day. He was never a player that made a big splash on the national scene. However, if you talk to the Clemson coaching staff, he was the top linebacker on their board for sometime.
It was a surprise to us in fact, when we discovered Alexander was actually higher on the board than Craig Stevens, who signed with Auburn. Alexander will likely start out at outside linebacker. It is conceivable that Alexander could have a chance to play in August. Linebackers coach David Blackwell wants to have eight linebackers in the rotation at the start of each season. Currently, Anthony Waters, Tramaine Billie, Nick Watkins, and Antonio Clay have locked up spots in the rotation. It is likely Josh Miller and Kavell Connor will have solid springs and earn their way into the rotation. Still, we forecast to open spots in the rotation in the fall. Alexander could instantly become one of the favorites to earn those spots. He will be competing with Maurice Nelson and Adrian Kindred. Nelson and Kindred have been in the program for two years or more. The coaching staff has a good grasp on what those two players bring to the table. If Alexander comes in and pulls close to even, it is likely Coach Blackwell would go ahead and give the talented freshman experience. Freshman Forecast: 50% will play, 50% will redshirt
