Sophomore running back Kelvin Taylor rushed for 248 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Glades Day to a 42-35 victory over Warner Christian for the Class 1B state championship at the Citrus Bowl on Friday.
Taylor's five touchdowns gave him 110 on his career tying him with Clemson commitment Mike Bellamy for the all-time state record. He was eligible to play as an eighth-grader because FHSAA rules allow middle-schoolers to participate in varsity sports when they are in the same building as the high school. Taylor is the son of NFL running back Fred Taylor.
