2 different Presidential D-Day recognitions to those who served & died.
Jun 6, 2022, 6:20 PM
|
|
1981: President Ronald Reagan flew to France and spoke at the D-Day Memorial Ceremony..and other Presidents have issued varying statements on June 6.
2021 (No statement) & 2022: President Joe Biden did not VERBALLY issue a single statement in 2022 about D-Day until 8:45PM on 6th when he finally texted a form statement thru the White House..and only after an uproar from Americans!
Really don't mean to get political on this board but many Clemson men & women served in WW2 and many dozens died (with recognition given just across the road from our MEMORIAL Football Stadium)..
so I don't understand a President (Dem or Repub) not simply issuing a statement how Americans & many Ally Counties helped save Europe from Nazis 78 years ago on this date..and simply thank them and their still living relatives & friends.

You can have the pride month comment, but Juneteenth is a commemoration of the end of slavery, as well as an opportunity to celebrate black freedom. If we celebrate freedom on July 4, we gotta celebrate Juneteenth. One celebrates freedom from another country; the other celebrates freedom from inhuman treatment.

Juneteenth is a celebration of black freedom. It's that simple. To those wondering, "Well what day is set aside to celebrate white freedom?", the answer is this: white freedom has always been a thing. There's a day necessary to commemorate and celebrate black freedom in America because, historically speaking, black Americans were enslaved, treated as less than human, and subjugated to racism. Those are the facts.
My suggestion to you is to ask black friends (provided that you've got them) if you can join them to celebrate Juneteenth (provided that they're celebrating). Do it from a place of sincerety, not obligation, and you'll find that black people are more than what we've been portrayed as. We're fun-loving, hospitable, and most of all, human. We're argumentative, we can be petty, but we can also provide comfort to those in need of it.
I realize my words can offend, so please allow me to apologize if I've done so, but I know no other way to convey the reality that commemorating history and celebrating the present are both doable. Juneteenth isn't about villifying white people, it's about celebrating freedom in a country that denied it to us from 1619-1865 and legally discriminated against us from 1865-1964.

choices have consequences, and what was allowed to happen in 2020 needs to inflict pain on the country. Kind of like if your kid makes bad decisions and you only punish with a timeout, then there is no deterrent
Plus, liberals view the military as a group of alpha males, not exactly their target audience. My guess is he seen little enthusiasm among his base to recognize one of the all-time bravest operations ever carried out by man

Based on couple of sources he never uttered a single word accept a text thru the White @ 8:45 PM as an afterthought!
but if I'm wrong then please correct me and I'll issue an apology and not thru an agency.

Meh. I am 110% ok keeping the "thanks" silent or low key or confined to things like memorial day or veterans day. Growing up, dates of battles were not great experiences for a lot of families. I rather not have every single thing made into a non-stop military parade... (kinda the opposite of DDAY)
My grandfather was there the night of June 5th cutting a path through the anti-landing/mines. He passed over 25 years ago. Actually early June and even mid December was a bad time for us as he suffered from spells and bad flashbacks. He was unintentionally dangerous then and not fond memories there.
Thank the vets, sure, but thanking relatives - ehhhh, pass. Even I am beyond that. There is ZERO reason to thank me. Heck, my father made certain of that as he was a unhappy disabled Vietnam Vet...
We got a host of modern problems, lets solve those first. Trying to get a sidewalk around a VA funded so non-driving volunteers don't have to walk in the road.
