Are Penn State and Ohio State "comparable teams" now? Look.

Ohio State 11 wins Penn State 11 wins
Ohio State plays in Big Ten Eastern Division, played against the other 6 teams and did not win it Penn State plays in Big Ten Eastern division and played against the other 6 teams and did win it
Ohio State played Penn State and lost Penn State played Ohio State and won
Ohio State played 2 of the best 3 teams from the Western division and beat them. Penn State played 2 of the best 3 teams from the Western division and beat them.
Ohio State has a top-10 strength of record Penn State has a top-10 strength of record
Ohio State did not play in its own conference championship game nor win it. Penn State played in its own conference championship game and did win it.
Ohio State beat multiple top ten teams Penn State beat multiple top ten teams
Ohio State has wins over the current 5, 6 and 9 in the top 25 Penn State has wins over the current 2, 6 and 22 in the top 25
Ohio State has the 2nd best strength of record in the NCAA. Penn State has the 7th best strength of record in the NCAA.
Yes, Penn State and Ohio State are comparable. Now that we established that... what are the 4 major criteria listed by the Playoff selection committee for comparing comparable teams?
Conference championships Head to Head Strength of schedule Head to head against common opponents
Penn State clearly wins #1 Penn State clearly wins #2 SOR is 2 vs 7 Penn State is 7-1 against teams that Ohio State also played.
Still think OSU is a lock?

Are you saying the two team are not comparable? Because if you are, then you must go through the 4 established criteria that the CFBPSC has declared must be the most important.
What kind of detective would focus on a clue that is clearly not as significant as numerous others?

2. The "surprise" of the first playoffs was Baylor and TCU being left out because of Ohio State's Big Ten Championship and the Big 12 had no true conference champion.
3. The playoff committee has repeatedly stated that conference championships are among the most important comparisons for "comparable teams" and there is literally ZERO evidence that has changed.
I'm stating facts. You are just restating opinions.

"if you'd let that go, then you'd see that the committee"
Really? 2 teams from the same division, one wins the conference championship and the other one doesn't qualify to even play in the CC game? Really? You want everyone to just let that little factoid go?
Uh - I don't think so. If they don't care, then stop making the good (aka - BEST) teams play an extra game to see if they are as good as the teams that did not make it to the CC game. Forcing the BEST teams to play in the CC game does NOT help those teams and can only hurt them. That's the dumbest logic on the planet IMO.
Here's something to change your logic: If UL had only lost to CLEMSON, and CLEMSON won the ACCCG, but CLEMSON is left out of the playoff and UL is #2, then how would you like that?

11-2 and 11-1 are comparable. 11-2 and 8-4 are not.
And Pitt didn't win their division or their conference.

Temple will be in the Top 25 and Iowa will be right around it in this final poll, so go back and compare Penn St and OSU, then.
Also, keep in mind how many OTs it took Penn St to get those results versus the OSU ones.

Now current is not tomorrow current, my point is Penn St's strength of schedule will get a boost with at least Temple tomorrow and possibly Iowa.
That was all I was adding.

All games have been factored into the strength of record as of my post. I guess it could move a little more depending on how much the weigh the playoff rankings in their formula.

Louisville...) they should be ahead. Add in the conf championship, and it's not really that close.
If ESPN has any say, expect them to jump over Washington - they LOVES them some Big 10.

You make a good point. But this is what is going to trip some people up. Ohio St won against Michigan who blew out Penn St. Plus Penn St has 2 losses compared to Ohio St 1 loss. Ohio St has played a tough out of conference schedule. Penn St loss to Pitt shouldn't be held against them since Pitt also beat us so they aren't a terrible team. I believe Penn St should get it. I would be highly upset if I was a Penn St player/alum/fan if Ohio St gets in and we beat them plus won the conference. Tough position for Penn St.

Ohio St won against Michigan who blew out Penn St. Yes, but that data point isn't nearly as important as Ohio State LOST to Penn State.
Plus Penn St has 2 losses compared to Ohio St 1 loss. That is Ohio State's biggest advantage... but this is partially mitigated by the fact they both have 11 wins. Ohio State didn't earn an extra game.

I don't think the committee will separate those 2 facts. It's the combo of the 2 losses plus the blowout loss to Michigan. I'm with your analysis that Penn St made their resume very comparable. And they have 2 aces against Ohio St which is the conf champ and head to head win. Going to be interesting tomorrow.

Head-to-head win and the conference champion TRUMPS everything OSU can bring to the table. Screw 'em if OSU gets in over PSU.
Actually, I would prefer that CLEMSON plays OSU rather than PSU, 'cause OSU is weak IMO. But that is simply WRONG on so many levels.
If they do that - then please do away with the CC games. It is unfair to the participants. Well - don't do away with the CC games, but make the playoff decision PRIOR to playing those games so it won't be a liability to the participants. Otherwise, it is unfair.
