Brad Brownell = Tommy Bowden ?

I see a lot of similarities between the two. Doing good enough to keep his job. Gets some big wins every now and then, but then there's the inexplicable losses as well. Involved in the program at the time of big facility improvements. Great recruits, great potential, but just can't get over the hump. Lots of close losses in big games, but again, just can't get over the hump. Nice guy, very likeable. But the bottom line in this game is tournament and titles. We've not done well with him on either count.

If Brad Brownell's basketball success was as good as TB's was in football, I'd be ecstatic right now. TB at least had us bowl eligible each year. I compare the Brownell years more to Tommy West. Likeable enough guy for the fans to want to keep around regardless of what the product on the court or field is.

teams make the NCAAT. Also, there are a lot more built in advantages that come with being the Clemson FB coach than the Clemson BB coach.

It's not so hard to get to a postseason basketball tournament or a bowl game.

Maybe BB is a notch below that level. Tommy could recruit pretty well.

Sadly, I think that may be giving Brad Brownell too much credit.

He has done better against Wake, that's for sure, but Bowden was 7-3 (as compared to Brad's 9-1).
Not exactly a horrible record, but Brad's is better.

Bowden couldn't coach his way out of a bag, but he was a very good recruiter. BB is an OK coach, but really poor recruiter.

Our recruiting has improved each year under Brownell with his current class being pretty #### good.
Basketball at Clemson is much harder to recruit than Football.

We didn't recruit worth a darn until Dabo was hired. I Distinctly remember 30th- 40th ranked classes under Bowden until 2006.

Tommy did not have a clue what to do on offense once Rich Rod left, did not have the gumption to make a change in an OC or tell Vic to attack on defense. Meanwhile, Dabo was waiting and watching.
Brad has replaced many assistants and has just got the new facility upgrade needed. Recruiting is getting better, which should allow Brad to operate with less project players and eventually those who are more well-rounded to his style.
Still, ACC Basketball is a taller task to elite status at Clemson than football.
And yes, I know our expectations are not as high in basketball. We just want to be competitive and steal some years here and there.

BB does not and did not have the talent, tradition, passion, support or culture that TB had.
BB has done way way way more with less compared to TB.
