was confusing to me because Dabo and the team set those lofty expectations themselves before the first game when they said this was a championship team and not winning it would be a disappointment.

All that is left is to fight like crazy as if we are in a bar room brawl or a 50 man all out battle royal and salvage what is left of this season.

I really did not like that comment. It makes anything short of winning a championship a disappointment to the players. It’s on Dabo. He need to go back to talking about winning the opener, not a natty. He should know better

He really needs to stop pumping every player as the best ever and telling players in preseason that if they don't win a championship they will be the first in however many years if he then gets aggravated when people expect all those great players to translate to at least a very good team on the field.

Dabo is literally making things up by saying fans expect no losses.

Alternative reality much? The wonderful but entitled band wagon folks still can’t wrap their heads around being corrected. Any loss creates angst beyond measure - mostly because people have run their mouths too much and our recent success allowed them to do so - but if you think we can drop 2 games with no Tnet fallout - you have managed to insulate yourself from the real world. I sometimes regret being grounded in reality, sounds so whimsical and fun to make it up as you go, with absolutely no consequences.

Regarding any comment from any coach or player, I apply this principle.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Grade of slaw my Tnet friends. Grade of slaw.

Our team has goals, not expectations.
Dabo did feel like this was a championship team. If not for a missed FG against FSU it might have been true.
Guess you don't understand no one knows for sure until the games are actually played, even the players and coaches. Hopefully you use this season as a learning experience.

We have a coaching staff that is paid in the top five in the country.
We have talent on this team that most experts say is at worst in the top ten in the country.
And midway through the season we are unranked and, out of the conference race, and fighting to reach bowl eligibility.
Let that sink in…
Clemson fans don’t expect to win every game. I thought we’d go 9-3 or 10-2 this year because of a new QB and a weak WR corps. Dabo and anyone else that says Clemson fans expect to go 12-0 and make the playoffs every year are idiots or liars.
What they do expect is a product that is commensurate with the talent level and the investment the fans and the university have put into the program in terms of financial support. We struggled to beat Wake Forest. Wake Forest the next week got drilled at home by a bad VT team. They are not good but we made them look good.
Dabo, with his comments, is deflecting. He won’t own his hiring mistakes and instead points fingers at the fans. And folks are getting tired of the arrogance. The aw shucks guy that won our hearts and admiration with the way he built the program has turned into a prideful and arrogant man.
I’ll be there in two weeks for ND and for the next two home games after that.
My prediction is we’ll finish the season 7-5 at best. Dabo will try to blame the fans and the 1.5% for his and his team’s failures and we will struggle to hold this recruiting class together because those players like many of us can see the trajectory of this program, which isn’t good.

There is some truth to this. I for one did not think this was a playoff team. ACC title game max. We won’t even make that. Heck, I’m worried about the game today!

If "best is the standard", what is unrealistic about not losing to Duke and FSU. Honestly, this season, this team does not remind me of a Tommy Bowden team. It reminds me of a Ken Hatfield team. Hopefully it won't digress to a Tommy West team.

I agree with you guys now. You have won me over. We need a coach and staff that will come out each year and state, right up front, that the players on this team are substandard, and we shouldn't expect anything more than a 4 or 5 game win total. There would be no need for a Radio Flyer wagon, much less a band wagon. We could then put solar panels in the empty upper decks and power the entire city of Clemson. At that point everyone's expectations can be met and all can be happy.

I don't have unrealistic expectations. I do however expect a coaching staff that makes over 10 million dollars a season to be able to pass the ball beyond the line of scrimmage to get a first down or line up and run it down your throat for 1 yard. This 1.5% er ain't blind to the obvious like the 20% of our coaching staff is. I love Dabo and all of our coaches but he needs to address this stuff. The only thing I have heard him say out loud was criticizing Wes with the 3 man front that one time. Wes has been the most consistent of any of the coaches. At least he learns from his mistakes and makes adjustments. Maybe the other 66% of our coaches can take notes or let Wes call the offensive plays inside the 5.

Right.
Dabo had us all believing this team could compete for a national title. Pretty weird considering we don’t even look like a top 25 team halfway through the season.

You are absolutely correct. That's why talking expectations is never a good thing. Dabo- IF he HAS to talk- should do so about the NEXT opponent and nothing else. If the " one and half" % bother him or even has his attention to the degree that he feels compelled to mention them then he is paying too much attention to social media. As I posted earlier, Dabo needs to assume the Barry Switzer attitude. To repeat: when a reporter asked Barry after a game what he thought of the fans who were booing his team, Barry said "If I had been sitting up there, I would have booed too". Enough said.

referring to the crowd who simply wants to do better. He’s talking to the vocal minority who find it their life’s mission to poke holes in EVERYTHING and blast it on social media. There is a very clear difference between the majority who sees the mistakes and wants to improve, and the whiner who just throws spaghetti at the wall (guessing at a myriad of complaints) and hoping something sticks.
It’s not that Dabo has lowered expectations, it’s in how these social media warriors go about on and on with themselves, griping about everything under the sun and making fools of themselves and not speaking for Clemson nation as a whole.
Dabo understands people get upset when we lose, just like everyone in the locker room, but he’s talking about the vocal minority who scream a plethora of complaints from the mountaintops.
