Did TE just state
Nov 1, 2021, 4:50 PM

That DJ interception was on the coaches and Joe Ngata? “ Joe Ngata has to do a good job of making sure he becomes the defender and not it get picked off.” “it was more on coaching than on DJ”. Which coach was he talking about. Did Joe Ngata or a coach throw the ball into double coverage. He is throwing blame on the interception on everyone except for the one responsible. He says the same thing over and over, makes excuses and blames the wrong people after every game.

RGIII pointed out Ross was 1 on 1 and breaking free when the pass was thrown into double coverage. TL would have found Ross for a TD.

I you'd listened to the interview of Tony
Nov 1, 2021, 5:17 PM

you would have heard him say the throw was to Ngata no matter what. Designed play. It is to help DJ on some calls as he still is struggling in his progressions. That's why Elliott said coaches. In that case Ngata is to break it up no matter what. He didnt. That's why he said on Ngata.
So DJ threw it where he was told to throw it

That’s all well and good. And I understand what they are trying to do and say. The problem was the throw was to the inside and underthrown. If DJ would have placed the ball to the sideline and not short Ngata would have had a shot to get catch it or at least break it up.

Defenses just need to watch DJ's eyes --- laser focused on
Nov 1, 2021, 10:04 PM

on ONE WR.
That is a HUGE problem. It is time for DJ to be able to read defenses and have at LEAST 2 options. The pass to EJ after he fell down, resulting in a fumble, may yet another example of DJ being given only one option. Give DJ at least TWO options or put in a QB who can handle multiple options. It is beyond time.
Otherwise defenses will have a HUGE advantage --- they just need to watch DJs eyes.

That's the game awareness that really is lacking with DJ.

And DJ owned that and said the same thing himself right after the game. He said he threw it short and he should have put it in a better place and let the receiver have a chance at it. He made a mistake and he owned it. What do you want the kid to do? Anyone on here even realize he started the game with 5 straight completions or does that not fit your agenda??

If it isnt obvious that DW and TL
Nov 1, 2021, 5:45 PM

Are not out there by now some will never get it. People can blame coaches all they want but you cannot make someone process things quicker than they can. It comes to people differently, and sometimes it never does. Look at how many NFL QB's struggle early in their careers. We're seeing it with TL now, just as we have with Peyton, Aikman, and countless others. I hope DJ is growing every week. If it clicks he has all the tools. But for every Peyton, there's a guy it never does click with. They can't adjust.
I am positive this was not what our staff was planning on, but it's where we are. So they are doing what they have to do, and that limits things

I don't and do have problems with DJ, yes he should be making better decision now. CLEMSON runs a lot of RPO and he needs to make better reads. As for the throws, it happens, some are there and some are not, the issue comes in when, TE says that it was the coaches fault, it was ther centers fault, it was the recievers fault. I know DJ can be good and even excellent but come on Tony!(

Is it too much to ask for DJ to make good decisions? If the decision is to throw it into double coverage or throw it out of bounds then I hope the coaches will allow DJ to throw the ball out of bounds. Same issue with The EJ pass and fumble DJ has to throw that ball away or take off and run, but will the coaches let him decide? I honestly don’t know. Same issue with the shuttle pass pick six. DJ has to decide that he can’t pitch that ball because the defender is in the way and nothing good is going to happen, but will the coaches be ok if DJ decides not to execute these plays?

So if he throws an interception it is everyone else fault and not DJ. How is that helping DJ, by throwing to someone who is not open and is in double coverage and it gets picked off. Saying Ngata needs to a better job of breaking it up, how about do a better job of throwing it so won’t get picked off.

Shouldn’t he be targeting Booth or Mukuba if TE wants receivers breaking up passes? Of course he may already be doing that in practice. How sad is it that a second year major college QB can’t read or manipulate the safety to the point they have to predetermine receivers for him?

to our guy to the right behind the line of scrimmage with 2 defenders in his face and no blockers - the best result was just losing a couple of yards and no interception. Receiver would have made a better play by just spiking the pass onto the ground since there was no hope for a gain.

If you make some inferences based on what DJ said about it, TE drew up the play that said "throw it to Ngata whether he is open or not," which is either untrue, or we need to fire him today.

he explains that. In case you haven't noticed, and how couldnt you as the whole world has, they've had to simplify things for DJ. Some calls are no reads as he struggles with them. Isn't that obvious? And for the play TP crowd, since that is where we are isn't it obvious that TP isn't even as far along in this as DJ?

QB can only focus on one receiver AND he can’t even be trusted to make a judgment call on if that one receiver is open??
Then you tell the WR- ok go run your route to be open, but if your QB throws the ball to the other team- it’s your responsibility you become a cornerback now even though your job less than a second ago was to get as far away from the defenders as possible.
And to think TE can draw up a successful pass play, pick what receiver is going to be open out of 3, and tell him throw it no matter what.... just run the daggum ball.

I do not remember DJ being this bad last year. I am wondering if he is not struggling mentally and is being baby stepped back into action. Simone Biles developed the “ twisties” at the Olympics and had to start back with very basic gymnastic moves. DJ played very well on the road at Notre Dame. Whatever is happening with him, he obviously needs some type of support. John Smoltz was a heck of a pitcher and had to have a sports psychologist. So prayers for DJ to get himself mentally in a good place. I can imagine he is harder on himself than any of us can be.

DJ did make some nice throws last week. Just not enough to make the passing game dangerous. He needs to do it more often. Obviously, all of the other units- backs, Olineman, receivers - need to do their part. I think it's coming, but ever so slowly.

I agree. I’m watching the game on ACCN for the first time on TV. I was at the game Saturday but don’t get the luxury of multiple replays. I’m at halftime right now and I know the second half wasn’t as good but, some good stuff - DJ completed his first 5 passes and is something like 12/17 at halftime. We ran 38 plays to their 24 in the first half. The scoring drive in the second quarter was 10 plays for 83 yards. Things look pretty good at halftime. I remember being happy at the end of the first quarter at Pitt, now we are in pretty good shape at halftime against FSU. Hope this turns into a complete game against Loserville.

All Of this was covered on Dabos post game interview…it was a designed call for DJ to throw it to him no matter what…he did what he was told to do…Dabo said that if it is a competitive play…ie you throw it up to said receiver no matter what, then it’s on the receiver to make sure it never ends in an interception if at all possible…so there was no read…it was designed to basically be a jumpy ball and it’s on the WR to make sure it never gets intercepted…any more questions???

The pass was underthrown by 3 yards. Ngata couldn't do anything to prevent the int. Both Dabo and Tony are quick to throw the receivers under the bus this year. But won't say hardly anything derogatory about the main problem. It's insanity if they really believe DJ is fine.

If we are so limited with what we can do in our typical playbook then change it up based on the personnel we have. There is no way a d1 QBs isn't capable of throwing to more than 1 receiver on a play. It's not like our offense is very complicated even when we have a dw or tl according to NFL coaches.

the refs..thats when you know we're not very good. And not to mention..you're wasting your time. When Bowden was here we did that. That phantom holding call is what got us beat or that missed Pass Interference is what did us in... we should have won that game.. how many times did we say that in the early 2000's. It sux to not have dominant talent like we've had over the past 10 years. Even in closer games where we played down to our competition we would find a way to win. We just don't have the horses this year, or don't have the horses at key positions this year. Just enjoy your families and don't get so worked up this year (other than the game in Columbia.) Look for the positives each week but understand...we're just not good this year. Bright side is i believe a couple of changes in personell at key positions and coaching areas we could be back in the thick of it by next year. But this year it seems we're content with rolling down the hill with who we have. Just gotta get through the year and hope Dabo makes the needed changes by next season.

I watched that play over and over on my Tivo and the pass was not only ill-timed and inaccurate but was fluttering through the air like a lame duck. It was almost like an end-over-end punt. To have a coach blame it on the receiver is "Coach Speak" lying ......no other way around it. It was a horrible pass, Coach. Come on. Speak the truth. It won't hurt a bit. You need to try it once in a while.

The safety was within 5 yards when he threw it. It was I’m thinking about a 20 to 25 yard throw. I mean, there’s trying to cover for a guy in a presser and then there’s just saying things that make no sense.
Either way, it’s obvious the guy can’t lose the job so at this point it’s like watching the same game over and over again. I think most would settle for a very average QB performance the rest of the year and assume their waiting on Cade to get here and either TP or DJ to transfer

I can’t blame Tony for for most of this year b/c he has always been “plain vanilla” play caller but we had team confidence & talent to make it work in the past. Of course it’s human nature to take it easy and make assumptions after huge success and that’s what our offensive coaches have done the past couple of years. DJ failures have exposed the coaches’ flat feet and it’s too late to do much about it now so Dabo, et al, have to try to salvage what they can. I have to give them credit For working extremely hard to extract positives out of this mess. The obvious reason for all the blame shifting is DJ’s extremely fragile ego, mojo, etc. Further criticism just drives him deeper into that he’ll hole.

The funny thing that on that play, the middle of the field was wide open. The LBs did not drop and post pattern with a descent fake would have been wide open instead of to players running the same pattern.
