Let's make them spend 4 hours in the hot summer sun for 2 meaningless tuneup games that nobody in the national audience cares about.

Yep - glad to see someone mentioned that all games used to be at 1 - and a TV appearance was very rare. You can't have it both ways - some people pissed and moaned about lack of money and getting out of the ACC and blah blah blah, so now we've got the money and networks but lost the freedom to schedule things the way we want.

ESPN3 only. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!! I have to attend a wedding that day and won't be able to record the game. I live in the country and don't have access to cable or high-speed internet.

This is why we need to schedule better opponents instead of cupcakes, then we might get a better TV option and time slot.

are available?
In the old days we couldn't have night games because stadiums didn't have lights. Now that stadiums have lights the only reason not to have night games when it's hot outside is old fuddy duddies yelling about tradition.
You gonna ride your horse to the game even though the car was invented?

Being able to play in the heat and humidity was once considered to be an advantage for the Tigers. But you're right, let's build an air conditioned dome stadium for everyone's comfort and convenience... SMDH

Playing in the heat and humidity won't be much of an advantage against Wofford or App State, since they're both from down here too.
Also, why on earth would we need that advantage against them even if we had it?
It would make sense if we were hosting Ohio State or Minnesota, if that were the case I'd be all for a 12:30 kickoff. If I'm going to watch what is essentially a guaranteed beatdown though, I'd rather do it comfortably.

In theory, it's not about Wofford or App State, it's about being ready to play in those conditions whenever they may arise. The Orange Bowl game in 81/82 was a warm muggy night in Miami and Danny has stated in the past that Clemson had a definite advantage over Nebraska because of it. I'm not saying that's why we won the game, just giving an example of the importance of a team (and their fans) being ready to perform in any given conditions. But we now live in the era of entitlement, when fans believe their comfort is the primary concern. If that makes me an old fuddy-duddy, so be it (for the record I love night games...).

The reason we traditionally had the 1:00 kickoffs was so
May 15, 2015, 2:39 PM
[ in reply to So we should just do unpleasant things when better options ] |

that people coming from the coast, Charlotte area, etc. could come to the game and drive back home the same day without having to pay for a hotel room.
Our admin has favored the early starts for years...for this reason.

Since it is Daylight Savings Time, which we older folks didn't have until around 1970, it is actually cooler on average for pre-game tailgating and the game than a 3:30 kickoff.

Why whould the conference dictate or even have a say in what time the Wofford game is played?
May 15, 2015, 8:33 PM
|
|
It's not going to be on TV, so why should they care. I think DRAD must have opted to have these games played at 1230 which is really dumb from a fans perspective. I remember TDP smartly starting some early season cupcake games at 330 which was better for everybody. Not near has hot and traffic is way better coming in. Not to mention you have time to tailgate. A 1230 Sept game agaist a SoCon team is just not taking fans considerations at all. Stupid.

Yeah they will hurt some but our men will be in better shape because of it. A 7:30 game in Louisville will seem like a breeze in comparison. 3-0 and a solid start to a glowing season.
